Ok so I went to a show last night, and it will be my last [unless Youngsta or Kryptic Minds is on the line up]. Anyways I had to sit through 3 hours of skreechy robot sex-step, then 40 minutes of that god awful moombah shit just to get to the guys that I came to see. It was horrible, and the first show that I had taken my girlfriend too [she also hated it]. My proposition is that we change the name of the sound that Youngsta is pushing in order to separate it from the other 80% of the scene. I mean this was the first show I had been to in 2 years. Is this honestly all that dubstep is now? Played out high pitch wobble and skrillex [god that got dropped too many times].

Also Youngsta please come to Houston and re-educate these people on what good tunes are...

I've been saying this for years; the separation is so huge these days - a new name for the journalists/record shops is needed.

Thing is last time I was at a dubstep night it was with Lx-One and Lurka playing.

all the support djs were pushing real dark dubstep also (yeah I was one of them, but forget that for a second. The other guys were too)

(plus the odd grime track)

I think you must just live somewhere with a shit scene. We had nothing but weighty dark non cheesy sounds all night and Deep End and Subheavy always put on nights of this quality where there's never any crap like what you said (styles vary a bit though, especially with subheavy not it is declaring itself not a dubstep night and is now getting a lot of quality house, garage and UK Funky djs playing at it as well as dubstep and grime).

Also the style of dubstep youngsta plays is so obviously a continuation of what dubstep has sounded like often since I first got into it. (I got into it around 2005). Claiming it should be separate from a style it really really obviously is is fucking stupid,

I think it should be called dungeon honestly. It shouldn't have to be placed on the same genre as the rest of that speaker-rape bro-gasm bullshit. It was really disheartening to see what dubstep has become last night. A quote from my girlfriend after the show last night "dude, you don't listen to dubstep... the music you listen to doesnt suck"

I think thats the case.. It's really hard to be a fan of the scene in America. The only sound that gets pushed is the "bro" sound [and thats pretty much all that was there too]. The Dark sound gets looked over in the club setting. I wished I lived elsewhere :?

Yeah thats nice and all, dick , but what its become is just terrible. I mean I guess you have to live here to get how bad it is, but the shit most people call dubstep now is god awful and shouldn't be grouped in with the original sound.

The kids that listen to brostep say that they listen to Dubstep and pretend to know everything about it while they actually know fuck all about Dubstep. That's the problem.

I'm a dick because I think it's stupid to call actual dubstep that is clearly dubstep another word?

I dunno what your problem is? Do think that because I posted how long I've been into it I'm somehow showing off? Cause it aint that at all. I was just saying it to give a scale to what I say when I claim that over the years that I've been into it this "dungeon" sound comes across to me as being an obvious part of dubstep and that just changing the name is dumb. Do you really care what people think of your taste that much? You've just been to crap night that's all. No need for name changes.

Anything then.. Just as long as it puts distance between it and the dubstep status quo... and not just "something"-step, just get away from the whole negative vibe of the scene. Its about to belly up anyways

If it's about to go belly up then surely all the little kids listening to Skrillex will go away and we can just keep going on doing what we want?

Even still I don't care. I mean it doesn't bother me that people think of Lil Wayne rather than what I listen to when I say I like Hip Hop. Or Pendulum with drum'n'bass.

Sorry you just came off a bit smug.. I just dont want that sound to be taken down with the rest when the scene dies. Its a shame that the original sound has been perverted so much thats all im saying.. I dont really care what people think of what I listen to. I just hate seeing something I liked so much being commercialized and raped beyond recognition

when did you get into the dubstep scene in houston? only in the last year or so has it become as bad as it is now.

for a long time it was just gritsy pushing the real shit. we had a monopoly on dubstep for 3 years or so. back in the days when the texas dub crew still said dubstep was lame and it was just a fad. now they're all over it.

anyways, ignore the big room dubstep stuff here. the gritsy mainstage shows (freshmore, rhythmatic, etc.) are the ones that are going to push the legit stuff. if you even looked at the i<3dubstep flyer it would have told you everything you needed to know about that night.

Yeah two years ago the gritsy scene was great when I first moved to Houston, I didnt know about the show [girlfriend bought tix online as surprise]. I don't actually live in Houston so I dont get to go to too many events, but yeah agree with you man.
