Sadly, am not out of Avengers related films. Except for the Hulk. And I don't want to watch the fucking Hulk.

Been going through this thread, and watching films in turn, after a mighty lengthy absence. Was gonna wait till i got all the way to the end before posting but after reading the samurai film recommendation part couldn't help but post.
The Yamada Yoji 'unofficial' samurai trilogy, The Twilight Samurai (Tasogare seibei), The Hidden Blade (Kakushi no ken, oni no tsumi) and Love and Honour (Bushi no ichibun) are all fantastic, with the former two being all time classics imho. All three follow a similar format of low rung samurai dealing with the forlorn realities of retainer life, and there is minimal swordplay (though when it does come around it is always fantastically emotive), yet each one stands out on its own merit. Really can't recommend them all enough. Plus Twilight Samurai has Sanada Horyuki, one of my favourite Japanese actors, in the lead, making it all the better.

Last night I watched this;

b2b

Battle LA was quite enjoyable, once you get over the whole HARVEY DENT, FUCK YEAH attitude that is peppering it. It's basically Black Hawk Down with aliens and characters you give slightly less of a shit about. Michelle Rodriguez popping up halfway through was nice though.
Gamer was a fantastic idea, but quite poorly executed. Butler is fine playing gruff, but when he tries to play gruff with a bit of character, he generally falls a bit flat. This was no exception. The bloke who plays Dexter was chewing the scenery for most of the film too. There are some segments interspersed throughout of a Sims style game where real people are controlled which were very nicely shot, and just the right amount of creepy.
Recommend both if you want something relatively braindead and entertaining.

Started off kinda promising, funny, but really really went nowhere.

Watched this one on the flight today

I hate Matthew McConaughey, but he was surprisingly good. Really liked it. Plus Marisa Tomei is a hottie

I wanna watch a good action movie tonight, suggestions?
Re: Secret Ninja Movie Club (aka what have you watched latel
This is the only DVD I've ever bought and not finished. Rubbish. My housemate watched it the other week and said he thought it was great... I've been eyeing him fairly sceptically ever since.spire wrote:

Re: Secret Ninja Movie Club (aka what have you watched latel
Battle Los Angeles bored the absolute shit out of me, I just didn't care at all. I sat through it though, against my will, but I still feel that making it to the end was somewhat of an achievement none the less.
