do you actually know anything about bikes? The fixie is THE standard bike of most heavily bike dependant countries like Holland for example, it's lighter, cheaper, easier to maintain and very very rarely breaks. I guarantee more people have bought bmx's since their creation because of their look than people have bought fixies for that same reason. Also the entire idea of the fixie is that you pedal backwards to brake? And wtf are you on about jam your foot in the pedals?
Fuck dat shit mayne, I need gears on my bike. I aint usin a fixie on a hill, and what if I wanna go all-terrain...fixies are shit for that.
And I'm assuming you haven't seen hipsters making their own fixies out of racing bikes? The cool trend is to not use your brakes, but to slam your pedals back (once again, this is without pedal brakes) and skid to a stop.
Those dudes were actually posing for each other.....
as awkward anorexic girls...
...it's no wonder I was repelled.

My perception of fixie bikes, I thought that was blatantly obvious.
100+ of the fuckers turned up at College green (skate/chill spot) and filmed themselves biking up the big hill. Personally I thought this just highlighted the inadequacies of the bikes. Also had one of the riders tell me; "It's a culture man, just like skating".
All I ever see is these kids talking about the new gear/accessories they're getting for their bikes, or trying to pedal backwards (& failing) for 6ft.
And how will you inquire into a thing when you are wholly ignorant of what it is? Even if you happen to bump right into it, how will you know it is the thing you didn't know?
great - I get it now...bicycle anorexia...
I'm attracted to people that look like my bike...
I KNEW there was something really fucked up about those people..

yeah they might be into it because it's cool but they're having fun i wouldn't let it bother you mate!
well duh if you buy anything and don't use it for it's intended purpose then for all intensive purposes that item is an accessory. But you can actually do a lot of stuff on BMX's that you wouldn't want to try on a normal bike so I think it's a moot point anyway.
MOOOOOOOOOOOT
Fixies are for road bikers who want to get around fast. It's not really a popular trend with the circles I move in but I have a couple of mates who are keen cyclists and they use their fixies all the time.
Same with anything, if you take it more seriously then you are likely to spend money on more specialist equipment. If you are buying it for any other reason then you are most likely a pretentious mug

some people do tricks on their fixies as you would on a bmx check it out
capo ultra wrote:can somebody tell me the advantages of having a fixie? (apart from to look cool)
I have never seen one and only heard about them in that dickhead song, what is the point in a bike that doesn't brake???
I mean they must have their advantages cos couriers use them, maybe it's so they can cycle backwards through a mad traffic bit or something
I know nothing someone tell me
lighter, more efficient use of energy to move since there isn't a bunch of mechanics to go through, less maintenance
that being said don't own one, but would like one as they're great for city travel, and keep my schwinn for long distance, and traditional mt bike for trails
