Online Collabs

Post by Floop » Wed Aug 24, 2011 10:29 pm

So people are starting to send me collab requests. Because they live in different parts of the world, I obviously can't meet up. So how do you do a collab with someone online. I hope I'm posting in the correct sub-forum.

Send stems/files to each other, never really seems to work out for me though...

Or if you're using the same program just send the file over to each over on AIM or something..

when ive tried to collab in the same room as people it never seems to work, online ones are the only ones that work out for me. Normally just share audio files over AIM while one person hosts it and does the mixing

It tends to be a weird one, because you always have to compromise.

Let them know what you think the each of you's strengths and weaknesses are, and make sure you take each others advice and don't get too pissed if they change something you think sounds awesome, you can always do your own mix of the track you both made later.

Dropbox is the key IMO. It allows you to dump/organize/backup/edit midi, stems, presets, etc. Also, the obvious email/phone call.
