New Nero Album?

Post by Earjax » Sun Aug 21, 2011 12:33 pm

Whats the general opinion on here? I can pretty much guess theres gonna be a lot of hate, but its putting the genre out there and lets face it, it ain't the worst dubstep album out there.

Don't intend to listen to it but from what I've heard from it it's very bad.

It's a great bro album IMHO. Lotta big tunes in it and I like a lot of the electro bits too. I like it far more than Rusko's or Emalkay's albums.

Welcome Reality is a masterpiece. I love the whole album, specifically Promises, Guilt and Doomsday :)
The drops in promises are brilliant, the whole album is a fresh take on Dubstep in my opinion, buy it!

Its a good electronic album, but its a shit dubstep album. Like 80% of the album could barely be called dubstep, but legions of fans are gonna accept this as the new definition of dubstep.

So no hate from me, but it bothers me that so many people think that every track on this album is dubstep and get completely the wrong idea about the genre. Its also kinda corny, but if you're in the right situation that makes it more fun

I'm pretty new to the Dubstep scene, been listening to the 'rough' genre for almost a year I'd say.
I would like to hear some of both your favourite tracks so I can hear the difference between what I honestly think to be dubstep and what you hear as dubstep :)

Don't get me wrong I've listened to many other artists also but yeah, post some links in a reply of which you feel are the closest thing to your interpretation of dubstep, I would like to see the difference :)

I'm new around here by the way, name's Simon :)
Peace.

Here's a back to back record that pretty much sums it up. Its a very diverse genre, but the general conventions are 140bpm (mostly with half-time drums), space in the track and a focus on sub bass (as in lower bass than what you hear in Nero tunes)

Tracks like Innocence and Guilt are definitely dubstep (someone's gonna argue with me there) but there's a lot of tracks on the album closer to drum and bass or electro house.

I personally love the album, surprisingly my favorite tune from it is Choices and its a D&B tune. Got a few 80s esque synthy tunes with big bass.

I mean what did you guys expect from nero? The album is a solid presentation of the type of music they have been producing for the past few years but extremely refined.

mIrReN, what is that going to accomplish exactly? Why do people think its a smart idea to give a list of hundreds of songs/artists every time someone asks for an introduction? All that does it overwhelm people, its not like they're gonna listen to every single one...

I'm pretty new here but I'm very quickly finding out everyone's opinion around here about what dubstep should really sound like. Almost makes me seem like I'd get banned for even mentioning Skrillex. It is also very apparent that a majority of the music shared on this forum all came from people with the idea in mind that "the old stuff is way better than this Nero crap!". That's just what I have been observing, though. Please correct me if I am wrong.

On subject though, I guess I like both "types" if that really makes any sense. The crazy insane ear-fucking bass of what Nero or Skrillex commonly use I like, and I think it sounds dank. But I also enjoy the dubstep that is considerably slower-paced and focuses more in sub bass.

I just want to be accepted!

All fair enough, except for a couple of things. One: its not really slower paced, most dubstep is around the same tempo. That's just how you're hearing it cos you're used to the aggressiveness of Skrillex etc. Second: its not just 'older is better'. There's plenty of new dubstep coming out that doesn't sound like what you're talking about, in fact its more diverse than ever these days.

I can't speak for everyone here, but I personally would like to see more people like you around here (ie, fans of a bro sound who don't trash other styles or say stupid shit). Thing is, that means letting in heaps of ignorant fucks who don't acknowledge that Skrillex, Nero etc. aren't the be-all-end-all of dubstep

Choices is my fav on the album as well but it was already realeased way back in 2008 so why its on the album i don't know. The rest of the album is pretty cheese tbh i like one or two tracks but thats about it

i don't think that people should think of things as in 'filth' being new and deeper dubstep being old. i only really listen to current music (nothing really before 2009) unless im in a particular mood and never divulge in skrillex/excision etc. there's plenty of new dubstep that's pushing things forward without being stupid and OTT.

Looking back upon what I wrote,
Maybe I worded that post incorrectly, but your corrections about what I initially posted, I totally agree with. You're right about the pace of all the music, it just seems really fast because it's more aggressive. And yeah, I said "older is better" because I guessed that the kind of stuff that the people on this forum like, is what dubstep used to sound like back when it was first getting popular. Did I guess correctly? I'm a little elevated, so pardon me. ;-)

Anyways, thank you. :) I just like to listen to music and chill. Both types are awesome! And thanks for the link. I need some better speakers to listen to dubstep though, so message me a suggestion if you have one. Please. :)

double post.

I never said anything about the date that all of music came out. I know that this "kind" of dubstep (I guess) is still being made. But I got started on dubstep by listening to a couple of songs from Skrillex and Flux Pavilion and Excision. And I liked it. Still do. But now I discovered this "kind", and I like this too. I don't think that any of it is stupid.

Yeah all good man. A lot of what's generally liked around here is similar in style to the old shit, but then there's also plenty of other sounds like post-dubstep (James Blake, Mount Kimbie etc.), whatever the hell people call the music made by Ramadanman and co, as well as more commercial sounds like Magnetic Man and the aforementioned Joker. All of its great, there's a real misconception that dubstep is divided between brostep and eyes-down dungeon.

As far as speakers go, I'm currently using Logitech Z-5500s with the front L&R speakers replaced with IMF Electronics bookshelf speakers from the late 80s (which sound amazing btw). Its not perfect but its decent. I'd suggest getting a good amp, studio monitors and a standalone sub if you've got the cash to spare
