Monitor setup; different placements cause different hearing.

Post by ChadDub » Fri Aug 26, 2011 7:24 pm

So I just moved my monitors from my floor, to a table that's against a wall. Now they've pretty much lost all bass and the highs are really annoying. I was wondering if there was a guide to say like, what places you put your monitors cause different things. For example if you do what I did they lose bass, etc.

You probalby are finally hearing the highs for the first time if your monitors where really on the floor. The extra bass you heard was due to room resonance and having direct contact to the floor. Monitors should ake a (equalateral i think) triangle with your head being the third point in the triangle anything else probalby will skew your sound one way or the other (bassier or less bassy more highs) also by chaning the placement now the comb filtering you had been adjusted too is different so your ears are going to need to readjust to the new placement.

Yeah, they really were on the floor, lol. But yeah, I know what you mean. I'm adapting right now pretty well.

though its annoying right now, it should breathe some clarity into your mixes that may have been missing.

Blinx is probably right.

What monitors are those? Rokit 8's? 6's?

I need to get a new pair with good bass, considering getting some Rokits.

it says in the manuel how to position them and surely you read something about monitors before buying them? The floors not where they do best...

8's. they have decent bass and hit as low as 30, although it's very weak. They hit hardest at 43 Hz (F).

And yeah, I know the floor isn't the best place, I just didn't have room for a desk until today.

lmao yeah, gotta think about that. ♥ Skrillex <3 .... ♥♥

Man, I really am improving as a producer. I've started to get better at choosing my samples, like hi hats and kicks and stuff, and that makes everything stick together and it's so good mmmmmmmm.

I figured, hey, I have headroom, why not just use it all for sub.

nice one, liking the 808 kicks for sub. also the jokeresque vibe, writing/arrangement is a bit weird but i'm used to the classic 8/16/32 bar based arrangement of nearly every uk based genre.
you better finish this one or i'll have to hit you with a stick until you do :a:

Try not to put speakers right in the corner of a room, or too close to a wall as well!

I'll have to deal with my tweeters like 6 inches above my ears and me being close to the speakers.

The low ends aren't weak at all, it's probably the room your in, I have KRK rokit 8s and the low ends are responsive...
