Skrillex on GetDarker...

I'd like to add some closure on this. (Not sure why im giving an explination, but im happy to do so).

I had a VIDEO interview scheduled with Skrillex, which has been re-scheduled....PLEASE dont shoot me down yet..... - perhaps consider what a great discussion would have been. Arguably the biggest "dubstep" artist of today by popularity - and to ask him directly, his views and comparison's to the UK sound....to then discuss the sound that GetDarker is passionate about....and perhaps more importantly, where he views the 'genre' is heading.

As this was re-scheduled; we we're offered this video exclusively (almost as an apology) for the late re-arrangement.

We took two views:
1. GetDarker does't include anything of Skrillex, yet he's a major part of 2011's dubstep (irrespective of your views, agreement - its a Fact)...
2. Eager viewers wanting to see the exclusive video; will be forced to trip over other content, generally our UK side.
(perhaps to our pureist fans, it was a bad move - but i still stand by it).

Reading comments of "selling-out" I find very dissappointing; we could have sold out years ago, and again very recently. We haven't. We continue to remain 100% independent. And posting ONE article (in 9 years) which isnt well-received isn't a bad track record.

For those who know me persoanlly, or our regular viewers - are well aware of mine and the teams area's of dubstep that we're passionate about...and I can assure you we will CONTINUE to push this area.

This thread is getting close to dead, but I'm going to share my views anyway.

I don't claim to have been listening or producing the sound for as long as most of you, but having gone from my "brostep" phase in 2009-early 2010 to enjoying the deeper darker sound in the last year and a half, I originally found Skrillex to be distasteful. Being a person that is resistant to change regardless of whether it's good or not, I didn't like the change that Skrillex originally brought to the scene. That being said I kept my eye on him, if only because I'm a DJ here in the Midwest USA, and I don't expect my crowd to be as educated in the scene as I am.

Now I understand what Skrillex represents, and I also think I understand what GD represents, and I think the merger of the two would be fascinating. I mean you have the most popular DJ going on the site that pushes the most independent underground sound. I think a Skrillex/GetDarker relationship might just be the tipping point to change the "brostep" sound into something new and fresh.

Skrillex was not producing at the beginning of the dubstep scene, so he is obviously influenced by the veteran producers whether he admits it or not. It only makes sense that GD would have a positive influence on his production style and might be the catalyst to something new and unexpected from that whole scene since Skrillex is the frontman for popular dubstep. Not to say that what he was doing was negative necessarily, but it was different.

Also, for those of you that say all he makes is formulaic nonsense, take a listen to this track. I was quite surprised how un-brostep it sounded.

Personally i think the music skrillex produces is terrible but thats my opinion, many will agree, even more wont. Commercialisation happens to every genre when it gets big, look at what happened to b&b and garage. I dont think GD promoting this video makes any difference, those that like it deep will keep clear just as those that like it bro will keep clear of anything that most of us would class as dubstep. Skrillex is big now but that doesnt mean you have to like him or listen to his tracks, me personally i'll just ignore them and hopefully he'll get bored and move on soon. I also find it funny that people post opinions then as soon as a 'big name' replies on the thread they turn 360 and start sucking dick. Forums like this are here for peoples opinions and everyones got theirs, doesnt mean any are right or wrong.
