RE: Dungeon Sound Labels
RE: Dungeon Sound Labels
I wanna start compiling a list of as many of the labels pushing this sound as I can so I can keep follow the sound a bit better, and know who to send my tracks off to! Anyone got any labels they are feeling at the mo?

We're not a dungeon, or even strictly dubstep label for that matter...AllNightDayDream wrote:Sub Lab

My bad if this is directed at me, I dig your tunes and the ones you put out. Collision's bits are some of my favorites as of recent. Didn't mean to pigeonhole you or anything, just wanted to spread the word.ARNOK wrote:

Nah, I was definitely not directing that towards you (or anyone specific). To be honest, I'm just generally upset with the whole 'dungeon sound' trend...If you feel a need to put these style of sounds into a box, why not call it 'dubstep' if anything? Personally, I just love music and art just for what it is...And if it was up to me, SUB LAB would not classify any of our releases into 'genres'.AllNightDayDream wrote: My bad if this is directed at me, I dig your tunes and the ones you put out. No hard feelings

Re: RE: Dungeon Sound Labels
All the people getting worked up over the name of the Dungeon sound thread, saying why not just call it dubstep? We're on dubstep forum, look how varied dubstep has got, if I started a thread called "The Dubstep Sound" thread, how would anyone know that I wanted "dungeon" sounds. It's just a name that a lot of people know what it's associated with so know what to find in there. Don't stress it.

Re: RE: Dungeon Sound Labels
as for subgenre classifications, i see the good and bad in these newfangled descriptions of art and music-
from the beginning language has strived to create new and better ways to specifically describe what one means to say, so as to more clearly be able to share thoughts. coming up with different identifications for colors--red, yellow, blue-- as well as different colors within those colors -- maroon, fire engine red, mustard, neon yellow, navy, sky, turquoise, etc.--for example, allows one to say, 'i saw this lovely magenta dress with mustard trim today' rather than 'i saw this lovely dress today.' adjectives and classifications allow one to paint a more brilliant picture with words.
i don't think subgenres are evil all around because they do allow people to more precisely and descriptively share sounds and interests with others. how many times (especially in the US, i think) have you told someone you like 'dubstep' and they ask you what your favorite doctor p track is, when really you tend to fall more on the black box/tectonic/whatever other highly esteemed label end of the spectrum? pigeonholing is a different problem entirely--saying sub lab is a 'dungeon sound' label shouldn't mean that it is ONLY and FOREVER a dungeon sound label--but maybe we should ease up a little bit and let ourselves share what we mean without all the subgenre paranoia
