Re: Nero and Chase and Status, meh I don’t know if I’d have done the same. Reputation (or inflated reputation thereof, if you are liked by every teenybopper who “loves dubstep” (and has the tshirt to prove it- )… reputation is pretty important to an artist and in order to preserve that reputation, you need fans… so you have to have people liking your music- fundamentally. But I just think that people who see $ signs and make the type of music that Nero and Chase and Status make are disrespecting their fans who followed them first and will inevitably stop listening to their music if it takes an unsavoury direction. Not for a moment suggested that Nero etc’s new material is terrible, hit and miss at best, but it’s a complete distortion of their early sound and to someone that knew of them, or at least has listened to their early material… then it’s kind of bizarre, it’s like putting faith into something you know will always deliver, and then it doesn’t, a bit like finding out Santa Claus doesn’t exist, or something- it distorts your opinion of them from what you know, and I think it’s important in music to retain a fanbase, changes of direction are allowable of course, but it’s a given in the EDM scene that if someone changes for the worse, especially to cater for a commercial audience, and it doesn’t go down well- then people are going to look elsewhere. Is the money and fame worth it? I don’t know, I’d want to be as honest and true to myself and my audience as possible. A happy medium is fair I would say- and I reckon that if Nero, Chase and Status, etc made people aware of their earlier stuff, as well as their new stuff, it’d be good- I reckon that those two sets of artists are so good they could make a reputation solely on their old stuff anyway-now that the dubstep/drum and bass scene is growing stronger and more people are jumping on the bandwagon- retention of style and sound is pretty key- mix it up a little bit, y’know.
As for gearlust, limitation DOES breed innovation, couldn’t have phrased it better
@Toric: It’s not jealousy, more the fact that they ruined a likeable, recognisible sound. I couldn’t give a flying hoot how much their earning. I’ve never seen Nero but seen Chase and Status 3-4 times, and it was a great set to hear because it was all early stuff (this was a couple of years ago) and that’s what I prefer and always will, I guess I can listen to their old tracks still and reminisce but it’s not the same. I’ll never quite see a similar live performance playing what I want to hear, as a fan and listener. No, you can’t please everybody, but then when artists stop making those tracks that first got you hooked it’s really kinda sad, because the whole point of being a music fan is to listen to them for as long as they continue, not just stop suddenly.

It is sad when a band or artists stops makin music you like, but that's just life I guess. Can't blame them for it though. They can't read your mind and they went in a direction they decided was best.

Your parents production is called reproduction.
They reproduced in order to produce.
In fact you are annoyed with your mums food production schedule.
So yes, you`re annoyed with production.

Re: Things that annoy you most about production...
I hate how Logic won't bounce sidechain compression down to audio. It just turns it into a regular compressor, and you end up with an overcompressed track with no sidechaining. The only option is to bus it to an audio track and record or copy the compressor(s) over to your bounced down track.

Going through 40+ project files before I can commit to one for more than a couple days -.-

i dont get what you mean here, obviously when you sidechain you are using a compressor to duck another channel(s). but when you play it ducks the channel and when you bounce it still ducks the channel cos the signal flow is still the same. are you not set up right? or are you saying when you bounce solo'd tracks like when you are bouncing out stems? cos then what you need to do is set the trigger's send to be pre fader. cos if its post fader (blue) then when you solo the channel being sidechained, you cut off the sidechaining action and the triggers channel is post fader, so as you are solo'd on the one track the trigger doesnt get sent to the bus. when it is in pre fader (green) then it will still send cos when you solo it doesnt cut off the triggers send and its not going through the fader.Manic Harmonic wrote:I hate how Logic won't bounce sidechain compression down to audio. i hate how shit my mac is and how it takes me ages of going through shitloads of Logic's system overloads when trying to play a track im working on, sometimes if i manage to keep working through it, once its managed to process every element and got the overloads out its system, it will play all the way through no problem, but today they just kept on comin! i also kind of hate mixing too. well balancing, i mix as i go along but then at the end have to get the right levels, and it always pisses me off cos it takes ages, and i drop everything down so there are safe levels, then end up pulling sit back up, so i have to knock everything down again, and ive heard the song like too many times by now so im sick of hearing it haha. and then you have to go throught the looooooooong task of bouncing it down, but i dont wanna do realtime cos i've had enough of hearing it, even though i should, so i do offline and it STILL takes ages! i was about to chuck my mac out the window today!

Re: Things that annoy you most about production...
I think I see what you're saying, but I'm soling the compressed track as well as the track feeding to the sidechain. Even if I don't have any tracks solo'd it still does the same thing.
according to this page, it's just the way it is... http://www.logicprohelp.com/viewtopic.p ... ceff4c38e6
Howver, I take it you've been able to successfully BIP a track with a SC compressor on it? Because this is super annoying.
Also, as far as your system overload deal, reduce your amount of undo's, merge any audio tracks that have a lot of chopped up files, empty your bin of unused files, empty your trash, turn off your wifi, and use a little program called IFREEMEM. if I've been working on a song for a few hours I usually restart logic, if you look in your activity monitor, logic's activity will slowly creep up, and it won't go back down until you close and re-open it. I always keep my activity monitor up because once logic gets too high in RAM usage (doesn't matter how much your computer has) it will overload or crash.
