Loudness warriors giving tips (aka music industry engineers)
Surprised this isn't a repost. I searched... is it?
Been doing the rounds on some production forums lately, but some people here probably haven't seen it.
http://www.youtube.com/show/pensadosplace
5th Episode (there's 30+ and they get better as they go):
In dance music, we call them producers usually, but the term used outside EDM would be mix engineers. Producers do different jobs outside of EDM.
Non-stop interesting videos from the engineers of some of the biggest acts in music today. Some of these guys are absolute legends so this is a really good peek into their heads.
Honestly a lot of the music itself is kinda lame IMO, autotune galore etc. But it's funny because they don't seem to even pay attention to the music 99% of the time, only the actual sounds.

Great Post!
Note to people on here asking about monitors... Manaj was tracked and mixed mostly in studio C at glenwood which has a pair of Yamaha HS80 M's and KRK VXT8's. That should answer all your monitoring questions... both are very affordable.
some good info in there and it's always good to hear engineers talking the trade.
Another suprising thing was that Niki Manaj was mixed almost ALL ITB. (thats more of a gearslutz argument but still)
The cereal to milk ratio was awesome. No one spice sticks out particularly.
Great

Re: Loudness warriors giving tips (aka music industry engine
Sorry, but even once you buy these monitors, you'll still be missing out on the room design, acoustics, and treatment of said studio. So it doesn't really answer much in terms of monitoring. You can't just get the answer to great monitoring by simply buying a monitor imo. Any monitor won't do its best job in an untreated or acoustically bad room. If you knew the room and the monitor extremely well and were experienced then you could work around and compensate for that, but thats unlikely. At least you mentioned they are affordable so no one is going to go and blow 2k on monitors without getting some treatment with them. Also failed to mention the huge 3 way main monitors mounted in the walls lol, don't recognize the model/ brand. In fact i think the HS80-M's you are talking about are just good(not) old NS10s...Manaj was tracked and mixed mostly in studio C at glenwood which has a pair of Yamaha HS80 M's and KRK VXT8's. That should answer all your monitoring questions... both are very affordable.
Good find on the video though, real good watch!
Re: Loudness warriors giving tips (aka music industry engine
Yeah those are NS10s, the HS80's grandfather pretty much.
Good posts SLASH and MikkiFunk. Also remember the NS10s were almost always powered with the same great amplifier that was industry standard, and those don't come cheap. The model escapes me now, but everyone would seek that specific NS10 setup.
Damn Chad you watched that tiny window the whole time? Haha, get over to the channel and full screen it. I wish they were in HD, but honestly the quality is very nice for what it is. Can make out everything well enough.
If they released these on DVD or a Bluray pack I would definitely buy it.

A bit slow and dry. I wish they would cut down on the chit chat. I saw some good tips but had to wade through a bunch of stoned mumbling to get to 'em.

wait vxt's are affordable? They're over a grand. I suppose its relative, I've seen more people here on dsf who aren't ready to commit to rokit 5's.
Thanks wormcode!

I think Noways has just adopted Chea! at the end of every post, as some sort of "thumbs up, there's my two cents, kthxbai" sort of deal.
Chea!
EDIT: where is Sirius anyway?

Got banned hard for saying something like it was a good thing that earthquake happened in japan because the japanese are merciless whalers. What any of that has to do with electronic music production, I don't know.
Re: Loudness warriors giving tips (aka music industry engine

your right... i was damn sure you were wrong because most ns10's have yellowish cones by now and those are so clean.
I stand corrected.

"Negativity" is completely disregarding the time someone has spent helpin' out on this forum because they have an opposing opinion. Deal with it.nowaysj wrote:321 posts of negativity + chea!!!

all I'm gonna say is, if the dude 'Dave' says "Jojo" is one of his favorite singers.....
i don't think i'm gonna listen to a god damn thing he says about music.. + he spent half the time hyping expensive new plugs..
yarg. i'm just in a shitty mood i guess.
