10 years ago today - what were you doing when you heard?

Was working a temp job before the start of Uni, for a company that made lab equipment. Was in the workshop at the time, Chris Moyles read out a news story that a light aircraft had hit the north tower. One of the lads I was working with made a crack that it had to be a woman pilot to not miss a massive building. We all had a laugh.

came in from school and my dad was watching it.He told me what had happened but tbh I was not old enough to understand the significance of it

I was in a my first or second week of year 7 - I missed the bus so walked down to my Nans house cause it was local to tell my mum i'll be late home (I was a good lad) and she was looking at the news jaw-dropped.

Didn't really realise how much of a big deal it was at the time.

My mother just so happened to be having a sleepless night, caught the live news on the BBC and woke me up to watch it at 1am. Watching the second plane plow in to the tower live was surreal.

Was in 6th form, told inbetween lessons, went home and watched news pretty much all night

I was living in an art gallery/loft space. My bedroom was in an old elevator shaft. My Mom called me up and told me the news early in the morning. I immediately knew it meant war was coming.

I went into the studio and wrote a tune.

Later that night I met with my future roomates for the first time as I knew I was having to move from this loft. Two females, one of which became my lover.

It was a very interesting, heavy, emotional, crazy day.

each class i went to we ended up turning the tv on instead of doing work.

I was in third grade and remember all of the kids talking about it and arguing what actually happened.
My teacher confirmed it after snack and told us what happened, although I don't know how she explained it to us.

For some reason I think my Dad pulled me out of school for the rest of the day. It was a weird day.

Working at a Royal Mail call center, inconsiderate OAP's carried on calling up with shit like asking how much a stamp costs while I was trying to watch the telly.

got woken up at like 7am by my mum who was watching it on tv. I was 12. all day at school we watched the news coverage on tv... not sure why. i think it was just the teacher wanting to know what was going on.

basicaly the same as legend4ry, think i was yea 8 though, 14 years old, we only did 2 lessons in the morning...
then got the rest of the day off.
got home and it was on the tv. knew it would be war, was quite vexed tbh...







still dont believe terrorists could of done it though.

7 years old, came into the living room and the news was on. mum told me that something very serious had happened and the world probably wouldn't be the same again

like many others around that age, i didn't really understand the significance until later

I didn't hear about it until I came over to this country 2 years ago.

you can't see the slapstick comedy in a plane flying into a building?

Just walked in the door from 6th form moments after the 1st plane struck. My mum had it on the TV...sat in bewilderment as I witnessed the 2nd plane hit....

The horrific moment where it went from being an accident to clearly being more in an instant....

It didn't even seem real at the time. Was very difficult to tell it apart from a film tbh...completely surreal. It was only the shots of people in the streets. The looks of devastation...that's what made it real. A day I will never forget.

Crazy to think I was rushing home - as normal - to watch the lunchtime double whammy of Neighbours b2b Diagnosis Murder...It was just a horrendous day really.

Was my first day of secondary school, they didn't let us go home early, or tell us anything had happened. I found out after coming home on the bus with my friend, I went back to his house, and his mum was just sat there staring at the TV. She then told us what happened, and I didn't get what the big deal was, but there was something potent about the video of the towers coming down. I then forgot totally about, and went to play football.
