The music industry is the music industry. If you don't want to deal with it, keep it indie. If you "don't actively push your music" because someone isn't holding your hand and leading you into the spotlight, then you are a sad excuse for a musician and I find that much more sickening.legend4ry wrote:Thats the state of this industry and I think thats why not a lot of women actively push their music because theres not many people willing to take a risk in a female artist unless there is sex-appeal to sell along side it.
Its actually sickening.

Re: Girlfriends
Well that wasn't my point; my point was that producing/engineering - mainly in the recording side of the trade isn't very female friendly - I have seen it happen a lot; even from when I was at college the only girl in the class either got bullied with snidey remarks like " thats the patch bay not the oven" or hit on - even by the tutors but when she'd sit there at the piano no one would say anything!Heartless wrote:The music industry is the music industry. Guess it could come down to taht 'ole saying "boys and their toys" and just people being protective over their boxes of metal.
Haven't wittnessed it too much in the electronic world; we have great-big named females in Dubstep who are praised on their music more than beauty which is quite healthy! Have seen a few female DJs and heard people/mates make comments like "she should of just came out without a top on and danced about for an hour" and I dunno; remarks like that always pee me off, even if its nothing to do with music.

Why are there so few female producers?
Because women have a hard time with Logic & Reason.

ha! trust this goes both ways.
guys are either way too needy for attention or way too impressed by it, either way it sucks, get a hobby ffs!
relationships + obsessive music making is not a healthy combo

Re: Girlfriends
3 girls and 5 guys wanted me to teach em how to make electronic music. only one guy is still doing it now.
i think it's just that the whole sitting in front of a computer for hours doing stuff that has nothing to do with human interaction has always been a male-dominated thing. let's face it, a lot of girls are more communicative than most guys and producing is a pretty nerd (as in actually nerdy, not wearing hip clothes) thing to do.
i think generally music is pretty imbalanced gender-wise. as an example: for ages there have been no girls in heavy metal and if there were they'd always be the lead singer with the big tits. and i think that image, that girls only get to make a career in music if they're pretty by some weird standards, puts many girls off making music. there are exceptions, but those are not marketed to the mainstream audience by major labels. a male producer could be ugly as fuck (see skrillex) and still make it but with a female artist it'd be much harder to do that.
bottom line: our society sucks, that's why.

Save up and get her one of those life-touch dolls to serve as your proxy while producing. She can even bang it if she wants to! Not only that but it will listen to EVERYTHING she says with no objection. Be careful though, this doll might be a better boyfriend than you...lyons238 wrote:this is my gf all day. literally even during the day she will be laying on my bed while im producing. every 10 mins "come cuddleFSTZ wrote:then you'll get ..guerillaeye wrote:what about making beats late-night?

Re: Girlfriends
My wife lets me produce and is my number one fan yay! shes always front row raging shows too! She even gave up half of her extra room in the house for my studio. She was like "you need to get out of that basement lets move your studio" it was awesome and now i have a real studio space not just my dingy basement. I never really had a problem with her and my music. I dont ignore her and her needs she lets me produce. Good thing i married a basshead that can appreciate good music (all genres) and doesnt listen to top 40 really at all!
Ruskos advice about sending her out shopping/nail salon is a great way to make her feel special and get some decent time in on the DAW.
