Was never into Jakes, I only like Time Ends from him. I just go for Coki and Bar9.

I have always loved bass,on my cheap little ipod headphones I would max the bass on the EQ. When I got proper set of headphones I searched up bass on youtube and found this Dubstep mix. I think it was just Caspa, Rusko, and skream tracks. I wish I could find it again.. this was like 2-3 years ago.

DUDE I FOUND IT

This got me into Dubstep right here.

you rate bar 9 but can't get into jakes? doesn't make a whole lot of sense, perhaps you haven't listened to the right jakes tunes

That atmosphere point is very true, its the reason I like Bar 9, Chasing Shadows and the odd bit of Datsik/Excision more than other bro producers

(offtopic)
i used to pretty much only listen to stuff like that when i was 16-17...Imminent, Hypnoskull, Converter, Beefcake, Synapscape, Somatic Responses, Iszoloscope (i know him and he's an awesome guy)...and that got me into listening to breakcore like Venetian Snares, Xanopticon, Sound Murderer, U-ziq, and the whole Planet Mu roster before thy branched into dubstep.

From there i started listening to chiller DnB and old-school jungle, than electro-house(Daft Punk, Justice and the like)...and then a friend introduced me to dubstep and when the first track that really got me into it was a snippet of Joker's Stuck in the System i heard on one of his mixes...it blew my mind! then he introduced me to Burial and the Hyperdub label...then i heard Distance and since i'm a metal fan too i was really blown away by the mix of dubby and heavy and started looking for more...

then i found out about Skrillex, Nero, Rusko et al. and like that for a good 6-8 months, but this summer i got really fed up with the whole grating un-musical sound of it all...i still like Rusko and most of Nero's songs because they actually contain melodies and are quite well produced, but i like it in small doses.

the moral of this story is...you can't trust the system!

that and Nine Inch Nails got me into all this crazy search for the musical holy-grail...11 years ago...

@rinseballs21

those tracks you posted really make me think of that old-school industrial-technoid sound...

now i am curious as to where you draw the line between heavier/industrial dubstep and brostep per se...

Can we all just agree that the people who can't stand "brostep" aren't particularly talking about the music, but more the people it attracts?
I'll just leave this here...

But don't get me wrong..I'm in the middle of this whole debate!
& I agree, there is a time & a place for everything :3:

In 2002 I found 4 DVDs on the stairwell of the flat I was living in. They were full of Dubstep. I only imagine kids were smoking weed and left them there.

That's how I got into Dubstep. I'd heard of it, but never knew the genre or artists. I studied the music on the DVD's and learnt the artists names, the labels, and expanded my knowledge.

True story ^^^

When Skrillex came along, I won't lie, I enjoyed his sound, but it got boring pretty quickly and all those bro step artists come into the scene, and then back out. But the originals are always around, and always pushing their sound that people continue to enjoy.

the kids ruin music. They ruined 2-Step and turned it into Grime. They ruined Bassline House and turned it into grimey 4x4, and I guess others don't want Dubstep to go that way. It won't because its too diverse.

But, Dubstep has gone mainstream for the wrong reasons and it's attracting the wrong attention from the wrong people. Thats how a lot of people see it.

Who even came up with the word brostep why couldn't they just call it brobass or brorape and taken skrillex and all those imitating his sound with them.. They should just make they own genre an gtfo the dubstep scene seriously it's gotten so far off from even remotely sounding like dubstep it deserves it's own name :6:

bar9 is midrange crack. You realize this right?

Edit: Don't get me wrong, I love bar9 but it is most certainly brostep.

Got into dubstep through the first tectonic plates compilation with the likes of Skream, Loefah, Digital Mystikz, Pinch, and Cyrus. Saw the rise of brostep and got into it for a while before it became incredibly repetitive and stale. Now I listen to Youngsta's show and scour dsf for new tunes.

This. Is. Me.

Motherfucker has the right idea!

Tectonic plates brings back memories man. I've been archiving Youngsta sets for most of the day today for the iPod.

according to my computer the first dubstep songs i downloaded were:
skream - midnight request line
rusko - hornz cru
benga - world war 7
the others - Hear dis style
kode9 - 9 samurai

i did get into brostep after that, admittedly Datsik's Boom and Gecko were terifficly original tracks, which i can still listen to and enjoy.
my hate for brostep came after going to shows and hearing nothing but borgore and flux pavillion. and when i would try to have conversations with people about dubstep when they have only ever heard of borgore and skrillex..

Triple drop IS absolutely "brostep"! That sounds like so much of the "filth" today. It's a great track, but if people are gunna make the argument that they hate brostep so much, then don't bring up bar9, because they helped pave the way for the sound that everybody loves to bash nowadays. And as far as being melodic, they're certainly no more melodic than your average skrillex track. (obviously this comment is directed mainly at ultraspatial, not you icanicant )
