The only thing that does not go in my studio is smoke of anykind.
no smoke, but white powder all over your keyboard? I would imagine that could do more damage than smoke. (in more ways than one)

I'd be lucky to figure out where I was let alone make anything.

This isn't the reason for me not making anything lately by the way

then later i got on reason and was waiting like 3 minutes for a 6 minute tune to render. then i got a better pc and tunes took like a minute and a half to render.

now on my macbook my tracks render in about 15 seconds.
thats pretty good, i'm using a cracked cubase, and its pretty sluggish boucin stuff down. i'm just so used to using it, changing now would seem like a waste of 10 years learning every nuance of the feckin thing

i kinda do like the break tho as well, make a cuppa, crack a beer, roll a smoke, hassle the cat, floss teath, read a viz, stare at the wall, play my bass, sort socks, send abusive text to ex ... plenty of things to do in 3min.45sec <<

wish I could say the same. lol

Smoke is bad for different pieces of gear in different ways.

Faders, for instance, collect smoke residue, and then dust collects on the residue. When you move the fader, there is then more friction, so it will wear out faster.

Needles/records - same thing - residue increses friction and wears both out faster.

Any speaker/monitor/headphone - smoke deposits will land on your speaker and dampen vibration, slowly deteriorating response (this happens naturally with age anyways).

Basically any moving part/knob/mod wheel, etc will wear out faster if the pots/faders get gunk in em.
