Re: Artwork for album? Where do you go?

Post by Mad_EP » Tue Sep 13, 2011 9:14 pm

I'm very picky about the artwork I use... I find artists whose work I really like, but even so, still needs to fit the vision of the release.

Image

When I'm 6 (12") - art by Jason Hieronymus. One of my oldest friends, and he is a photographer & designer. Fitting for him to do this one seeing that I wrote the track for his son.

Image

Eating Movies (CD) - art by AS1.. same guy who did all the Otto Von Schirach records, plus a lot of others: http://www.as1projects.com

Image

Not Afraid Of Spiders (CD) - art by Salt, the owner of Hymen/AntZen/Mirex. He does most of the art for his labels.

Image

Gully Gotham Grit (12") - art by Salt.

Image

Madlands Trilogy (3xCD) - I came up with the concept, a friend took the photos, and Nicolas-AdNoiseam did the design and layout.

Image

Ultrafood (split 12") - Raoul Sinier, the other artist on the album is also famous for his amazing paintings: http://www.raoulsinier.com/ And his tracks kick.

Image

Bass.hed (CD) - I knew Ben Didier's stuff from his work in Belio Mag and knew I had to work with him: http://www.prettyugly.ca/

Image

Brimstone Bangerz (12") - wart by RG.TwistedAnimators. He did all the design custom.

plus I have done a few myself--

Roam Restless (mp3)

Mad EP man those are sexy!
Seriously It's insane how many releases you have had!
Respect for you sir! :)
Quick question though: At the botton of Roam Restless & Twenty-Four Breakbeats, why did you add acp030 & ACP049?
I've seen some numbers similar on different EP's and albums before, but never knew what they meant :)

Cheers man.

ACP030 and ACP049 are the label catalog numbers... Acroplane 030 & Acroplane 049 respectively.

All the other releases have similar catalog numbers, just not necessarily on the front (sometimes on back, etc). For instance, "When I'm 6" was ADN42 - Ad Noiseam 042. Brimstone Bangerz was SLQ009 - Spectraliquid 009, etc etc.

hes incredible with digital painting, just really good at hand-drawing stuff on his touch pad. Particularly robots.

Does graphic design/concept sketching for games/film...

my mind wants to say he uses illustrator + the basic brushes?

Just a hand-sketch though, in high res versions you can see alot more of his brushing and whatnot.

Same here. I just like to piddle around until I have a new desktop background :)
How do you make a skrillex logo? :6:
...no, really I'd like to know how to get that lightning/3D looking stuff. I also really dig the guy who does excision's artwork.

I gotcha lol
Fun stuff definitely though. I've been trying to explore all of the filters/effects in gimp and learn what they do to images...very similar to trying out new vsts and seeing what they do to sound actually!

yeah! working with images is a lot like working with sound. you have sampling, synthesis, frequency (color) spectrum, mixing, mastering, etc.
