Is there a picture of these somewhere in this thread? Between this comment and the home made desk on the last page, I'm starting to rethink my Ikea-tastic setup...

I haven't posted a pic in this thread yet - keep meaning to, but my studio is totally trashed and being re-organized right now...

You bounce to tape and then what? Also, how much are they/what make model is it?

Record them back onto my computer...
It's a Tascam Portastudio 414. No idea how much, like I said, borrowing it from a friend.

Thats sick! So it gives it a warmer kind of sound to the track? Do you bounce to tape then go from the output of that machine back into your computer?

Yeah exactly. Tapes have a nice warm, kinda lo-fi sound that is tough to replicate digitally.

I have three portastudios, including the first two original ones with the nice pres and vu meters. All of them cost under 25 bucks used, but don't expect much out of a newer 414 like that. Certainly don't bother bouncing full tracks to tape for warmth, you won't get what you want out of that narrow a bandwidth. But you can record other stuff to it to attain some noise and grit. Really won't come out that much warmer and even maybe more brittle due to the small frequency window.

Still loads of fun if you are using a lot of instruments and what not or for running the odd sample out to and back into your daw. You could use it to add noise to a delay chain or feedback network.

Yea the black macbooks are awesome. IMO they look better than the 2011 macbooks. Too bad their specs are just bad.
