true.
theres the hype,the festival and a bunch of people trying to create a scene.

...we'll see who/what will remain when the press is gone.
BUT there are good parties,djs and truely interested people around so im sure there will be a lot going to happen in the future.

..plus the bounce-parties are not going to stop when spring is over!

yeah, thats my point. it takes time for people to get into new stuff, and as stubborn as the Viennese people seem to be this can take a while, even though there are lots of good djs buying the records and playing them at their café jobs and on their radioshows, it's not sufficient to start a big scene.

no disrespect to people pushing the sound, i'm doing it myself, it's just how underground works.

The development is quite different from what I reckoned it to happen.
Huge organizers present music before there ist even a small scene for it. Money seems to be faster than enthusiasm nowadays. So Respect to all promotors that were spinning dubstep before these two festivals that will change the approach of the music without doubt.
I wonder if underground music will have a chance in the future, or if there is even a need for underground, babylons methods are excellent uh know.

i reckon this festival and massive dubstep line-up will help local dubstep promoters aswell. think about it, after this lotsa people r intressed and most likely will come to dubstep event later on!

im also promoter in helsinki, runnin coupla dubstep night with dead-o and im just glad if bigger events wants to include dubstep djs to their lineups! that way this sound will reach people who might miss it otherwise

i think the worst that could happen to the viennese scene during this festival, is making people aware of how little they care for dubstep.

well starting out is never easy but doing a festival like this is pretty heavy imo. at least people are getting involved and time will tell how far you can go. we all build for the future. so thumbs up, keep it flow!

You guys might be able to help me out. I'm planning on visiting a mate in austria somewhen between end of june and end of july. She lives near Krems, but i'm gonna stay in vienna most of the time. What i wanna know is, are there any dubstep nights on in that time period?

I know the biggie is the festival at the beginning of june, would love to make that but can't...

Big up Austrian crew anyway, lots happening...

yeah some nice words after all that ...

well if you all followed scenes around since a long time the cycle was almost always like this, as mentioned in another post about lifecycles of trends, hypes or whatever.
when i did the first breakbeatshow with the ragga twins and shut up and dance 1993 there was absolutely no scene concerning breakbeats happening in vienna. back then techno with scarce bb rooms ruled. shortly afterwards there were some isolated jungle parties and look where drum and bass is now in vienna, really huge.

things accelerate all the time.
this festival is not on to create a hype. its just because we like it, its good to take the chance and invite some people over. after all it was planned in october long before the buzz right now.... and back then there was absolutely no sign of a dubstep party in sight in vienna, just isolated pockets of excellence by some good people, but that was it....

thats exactly what i also dont want to happen to dubstep... but dnb has quite some years behind it here also. and finally dkay, rawfull, shroombab etc are getting international response, releases etc....thats not really bad?? sure i'm all against the gentrification of underground scenes but there will always be promoters doing it only for the money and always drink and mobile phone companies who want to get "street cred",,,that also happened a long time ago in germany and wherever...

see what happened to loop --- the finest techno club featuring breakbeat from the milk club mannheim in the early nineties...that was before 93!! out of it - in the end - came raves at gasometer and pyramide...and still there are people doing their stuff in small clubs...

but between keeping the spirit alive and spreading the word and different genres to different people is always a thin line of selling out or not.

after all in the end there is only good music and bad music
dont believe any hype: doesnt matter where it comes from : media or self proclaimed wardens of underground culture....
