Iv only scanned it through
but next month they are covering dubstep and the free software next month is CAKEWALK Z3TA+ 1

I got all excited when i saw that so i thought i would post it on here hahaha

The original Dubstep one wasn't that bad, though the samples were pretty pony. The DnB vs. Dubstep was hilarious, and probably responsible for the second coming of Massive with Reso's multi bass tutorial.


I've got a real worry that this forthcoming one will be electronic soulless crap orientated.

Hmmm, I do sort of agree with this. We'll probably see a new wave of producers copyign the techniques. i never read the last issue about dubstep so can't comment really

Yeah iv noticed that their reviews mostly give either 8/9 or 10

Though i do like how they give you alternatives to the things they are reviewing

Also, I've lifted the following notes from Alex Case's book called Sound FX which I recommend everyone purchase.

Uses of a compressor:

To preventing signal overload
• Stops physical damage to equipment
• Keeps signals within the usable range of the audio equipment
• Use peak limiting to stop momentary spikes in the signal from overloading the safe operating tolerances of the equipment
• High threshold
• Fast attack
• Fast release
• High ratio

To overcome a loud noise floor
• Makes the quietest parts of the mix louder than the noise floor, e.g. hum or rumble
• Reduces the overall dynamic range of the signal before amplifying the entire signal with make-up gain increasing perceived loudness
• Low threshold
• Medium slow attack
• Slow release
• Any ratio (depending on how much you want to squeeze the mix and raise the overall average level with the make-up gain)

Improving vocal intelligibility
• Low threshold (but above the average signal level)
• Fast attack
• Medium to fast release
• Up to 10:1 ratio

Improving instrument articulation
• Low threshold ( but above the average signal level)
• Fast attack
• Medium to fast release

• To change the sonic character of the waveform being compressed

Has anyone had issues with the included CM discs? It takes a full 5-7 minutes some times for it to even open up a folder on the disc so I can look at the contents. For some reason about 70 percent of the time, it tells me the sample files are locked too, so i can't put any on my computer. hmm....

Never had a problem with the disks

Only issue I've ever had with a CM disc is the El-B interview never loaded past 5mins. Doesn't matter too much as it's on Vimeo.
