MICR0 - Stutter Mouth
The single "Shutter Mouth" doesn't just feature great sounds placed artfully and sparingly in a stereo image, however it also gives them four very different sorts of knots to get all tangled up in. The original benign melodies haven't been discarded altogether, with MICRO keeping a tenuous grasp and allowing them to bob up when the time is right.
Remixers by Fabio T. and Stockhammer though techno to the core, both positively slink: despite the crispness of their drums, these beats are nevertheless impervious to the sticky-tack of gorgeously weighty basslines. The latter, whose bouncy heft recalls with the relatively slow tempo especially well, filling in wide valleys in the beat with nets of organ swells.
The first remix of Fabio T. is uncharacteristically single-minded, a caustic hi-hat charges through the track, only stopping briefly at the halfway point. It's such a forceful element that everything else seems to swim listlessly below it, even the squelching, quasi-acid bassline.
The second remix comes from Stockhammer originally a drummer, the frequent producer and occasional DJ is about as
idiosyncratic as they come. Blurry chords and a rather pounding kick form the track's foundation, with a range of unusual
additions, these tricky effects are somewhat of a hallmark in his work. In this case, it's a bird-like flapping which races over the other elements at regular intervals.
