I think the album is slightly disappointing if I'm honest.
Some of the sound Roly manages to create are very nice. I mean, prime-evil style: old school. Indeed, the influence from UK bass music can be found (in the background mostly) one several tracks.
But most of the tracks, for me, lack direction. Perhaps I was expecting just a little more beats than this. Basically, there are none. I think these sort of soundscapes have been done better by the likes of Tim Hecker and others (Mika Vainio....). I was also expecting a little more melody: roly still has some maturing to do in that aspect. The final track comes close to finding a good composition, but still lacks that edge other sound scape/ambient producers have already managed to find and incorporate.

All in all, I rate "Cloud Seed" much higher than this. Still, if you like some of the effects and sci-fi sounds that Vex'd had in their productions, you'll want to check this out. I was also impressed by some of the bass weight.

But I'd say Roly hasn't produced his best album yet, give him another year or so to work on his composition and sense of melody...in my humble opinion of course.

He and Jamie also wanted Vex'd to be a more beatless project too, it just never worked out like that. I personally think this is a great album. Way better than tim hecker & co.
Roly's "Aftertime", Emptyset's "Demiurge" and the new Ekoplekz album are some of the best releases of the year.

good to see some different opinions. All the more reason to check this one out for yourselves lads!
Personally, I really like melody. I'd say this is a quality release still, but if you're looking for melody along with the bass weight and sci-fi sounds, I think Hecker (Ravedeath, 1972) and DeepChord (Hash-bar Loops) have him beat. Or, check Klaus remix of Mount Kimbie's - "Adriatic" (out on hotflush) to see my point.
I think if you're looking for a more sterile, darker isolationist vibe, you most certainly will enjoy this more than I did. For example, I think this one will suit me better come winter time...

mika vainio and vladislav delay are not the same person even though they're both really good musicians. vladislav delay's multila has to be one of my top 5 albums of all time.

i never liked vex'd too much. it was too dark and techy for me but oh my god how much i like their solo works! i loved the feeling behind vex'd but the tunes were just too much for me but severant and aftertime are both just amazing.

Thanks for correcting me. Think I was switching Vainio with Luomo.
