TheTomster - Filthy Symphony (Dubstep Instrumental)

Post by TheTomster » Sun Sep 25, 2011 7:23 pm

Renamed the song. Still looking for feedback on this before I can call it fully mastered. Leave some comments here or on SoundCloud. :) Thanks!
Soundcloud

I'm thinking of making the intro 2 bars longer so it doesn't feel like it swells all at once and jumps right into the track. Any suggestions and feedback appreciated!

I really like the orchestral idea, but I used to play in orchestra myself and the one thing I disliked (while at the same time loving the violin) was that it seemed kind of plain, maybe adding in a 2nd violin part would help, maybe plucked strings under the lead, or even volume crescendos and decrescendos (just some orchestral suggestions to name a few), also the drum beat got a little repetitive, maybe adding some closed hi hats instead of straight opens. Hope my feedback helps if you could leave some on my song would be greatly appreciated!

the violin sounds a little too compressed and loud maybe tweak the eq so theres a little less mids? THe hats or cymballs in the background are also too low. But the strings need to be turned down to a least the basses level. Then it would sit better. You can also try some more harmonies on the strings it sounds better when you add them in. Being an orchestrator myself I hear some low cellows in there too that could be added. I agree with Dazel too. Its not something that you cant work out though.
...wanna collab? Im down for new sounds, send me a PM please.

Thanks man, I will definitely take this into account. I had a feeling it was slightly plain myself, I have never actually been in an orchestra, this is based mainly on a sound I had in my head for a while. I'm glad you liked it, I will definitely return some feedback on your song man.

Yeah, I was playing the song back all day, and noticed that the violins are a bit compressed, and middy. I have low mids scooped, but the higher mids were boosted a bit. I'll mess around with it tonight. Thanks for the feedback!

no problem, I work with strings all the time and sometimes those samples get too much midrange and it throws the whole track off. You want them there but not blaring or taking up too much space.

I feel like there should be a pause before the drop as well, and a nice balance between the Violin and the bass. I also feel like the bass is just sitting there after the drop, and needs some sort of chopping to get more synced with the track as well. Maybe a little reverb for the violin? Possibly. Just try to get that bass and violin to fit nicely next to each other, getting that low and high end coming up on the synth, and a nice line-up with it on the violin's part.
That's my interpretation, hope it gave you some ideas.
