its really starting to irritate me because he doesnt deserve any of that bullshit. i dont know a single person that knows him that has ever said a single bad word about him...

Right-on man, I see this hate all over the internet and don't get it either.

read the whole thread then. you might not agree with us and i dont expect anyone to, but there are valid reasons why we (as in people who are/were into dubstep before it changed into something the original scene always hoped it would never turn out to be) strongy dislike skrillex.

you can call that hating if you want, but please understand why we feel this way.

Why do you feel this way? I read the whole thread and didn't see any valid reasons. I can understand you don't like ravey club scenes, I don't either, I don't do ecstasy, I don't wear oversized sunglasses indoors ( or anywhere for that matter). I'm 33 years old and I LIKE SKRILLEX ! I don't care for the laid back stuff as much, but I don't get all mid-evil on kids just for mentioning something I don't care for. So Skrillex ruined dubstep, just like computers ruined music, and cars ruined the horse and buggy market.

i just wanna enjoy the music, dance, drink beer, meet cool people, maybe have a short discussion and a spliff outside then go back in to skank some more or just soak up the bass in a corner. no matter whether the dj plays an aggy tune, a meditative one, something funky or weird kaleidoscopic laser music.

Whoa, sorry people, I need to take a step back for a second. I'm not even a huge fan of Skrillex, I'm not sure why I'm defending him so ardently. And I'm not trying to say Skrillex is to dubstep what cars where to the horse and buggy that's stupid.
I think when I see people disrespect brostep I get so fired up because that's the sound I'm going for every day/night in my bedroom studio. And as everybody here knows it's a lot of work and a lot of free time spent to get a decent tune that you want to share. So I'm not defending Skrillex as much as I'm defending my own hard work and love of music.
And I think if I get what your saying, it's kinda like your style of dubstep is your hard work in the studio and love of music, and you feel like your music has been invaded by and turned into something a bunch of assholes go too to get wasted and act like idiots.
And I think I didn't realize this before now mostly because I don't go out to a lot of dubstep night's anymore.(here in Detroit there aren't alot of bars where you'll just catch a dj spinning brostep on a random night, you have to find a one off) To me brostep is just the stuff that get's me jumping around my apartment and fun to listen to when my peep's are over.
So I'd like to apologize for my ignorance, and say that I joined this forum to make friends and I'll try not to come across like such a dick anymore.

word, i can respect that. it is annoying. people have hated trance for years now -- so when i got into it and started making it, i knew i was setting myself up for ridicule-- I haven't given a single fuck about a single negative comment because I tell myself that they aren't allowing themselves to understand.. it's just a given, you gotta not give a fuck. when someone lashes out at your genre, you just gotta smile and wish them a pleasant day.

I think the hating just needs to stop. Dissing somebody's music is NEVER cool. Sure you can say he isn't your thing, but to say he sucks is just assholeish. There are all kinds of links I'll come across on this site of an artist somebody links to, and I think to myself "Meh, it was ok", but I don't go in there and say it sucks, because it doesn't add anything. That thread is meant for people who are also trying discussing how they like a sound, or how to recreate it, and I don't want to, so I just find another thread.

If you are sick and tired of all the "How to sound like skrillex" posts, then just don't look at them, and start a thread saying "How to sound like whoever" thread, and people can discuss that artist in that thread. I'm the OP and I started the thread to start a discussion on how to get good sounding womps, and in my opinion I said I liked skrillex's womps. Why does even mentioning his name have to derail the thread?

Disagree, FM8 is sick for making devastating womps, wubs and wobbles!! literally dancefloor smashing sounds!
Get your head in the filter, its a tough nut to crack but works very well. Only assign the LFO by about 30 on it I find. You can also LFO the oscillators themselves. You can do some really fucked up shit with it. Check the tune in my sig. And this one:

Soundcloud

80-90% of the main sounds done with FM8
