Almost finished this track but it doesn't quite feel ready.. Feedback on what to change?

Soundcloud

InTheCrowd - Great atmospherics! Love the random percussion and the delayed hits.. Drop is awesome.. Love this kind of minimal style! Really digging it mate.. Honestly can't think of anything to change!! Awesome work

Specimen-Yarp - On the hits right at the beginning, there is a frequency in there that is hitting my monitors weird! Drop is awesome! Bass work is really good and I like that it has a lot of variation, doesn't feel boring! The kick and snare are both pretty lost though, those need to come forward in the mix imo!

Astral - Loving it. Those bass hits at the start are awesome and minimal but still have a good presence.. Leading into drop now.. Voice needs to come up a fair bit in the mix! Loving the bass. The only thing I'd recommend changing or at least varying is the repetitive cymbal hit

critical sound system - I know it's a dubstepforum but it has become a sort of hub for production of bass music in general so it's a good place to get feedback. Your WIP - The hat splashes and kick drum in the intro need a bit of EQing I think and the levels need adjusting. Voice is cool but goes out of time after a while.. Drop has cool sounds, but it all sounds so Lo Fi? Sounds like 96kbps or something.. Could be a cool tune if the sound is sorted!

critical sound system wrote: @snick01: stop it and do some dubtep dude! :corncry: joking. intro is cool with this pitced voice. then the tune is ok but the synth sounds a bit preset style and the drums are lacking layering.
aha i thought i would be cheeky ans slip some DnB in. Taking the "synth sounds like a preset" thing as a compliment, it was a basic 3 detuned 3XOsc synth pushed though a ton of effects and automation :)

i think you mis understood, i did only just leave feedback right before i posted m y track, just not on the last couple of songs posted, i went back and listened to about 5 or 6 pages of tunes and commented on the ones i feel i could contribute something too. ;-)

Thanks for the feedback everyone, i will take the drums into consideration as i have never liked them in this to be honest, they sound abit too jump up for an otherwise liquidy track :)

New track... :)

Phigure wrote:@subsynth it starts out of nowhere too much... build the intro up more. it's too repetitive as well, at the very least filter it a bit until the main bit comes in. the sub is sounding nice, could be louder though. really like the bad. the 303ish things could work, but they feel a bit out of place. i'm definitely not a fan of wobbles and yois and all that, but at least you did it with a modicum of taste.
Good Feedback, as I said I haven't really gotten into the arrangement yet, so I agree that it is a bit repetitious right now. I'm feeling a little bit more variation in the starting theme to make it a little more interesting.

You really like the Bad? Did you mean Pad?

Looking for some more feedback on the levels and how it's all sitting together in the mix.

I figure this is maybe 2 parts of what will be a 3 or 4 part song, very early stages right now! Once I get the parts down then I'll work on builds, transitions and the more subtle nuances of arrangement

Thanks a lot man, I love minimal sounding beats aswell but they are a bit marmite with people but big ups for feeling it!

@Ascian loving the pads in the intro the vocal goes in perfect aswell, The intro is nailed. loving the drums all sit right and sound perfect on my speakers. drop is big aswell didnt expect the roll back then the synths to come through. I'm a bit against wobbly synths but this works well. IMO if i had my hands on it id pull of the wobble synths and keep it all sub but I need to learn to add more channels than keep removing

@Snick my bad dude! ;-)

@Subsynth First theres a really annoying frog like perc I think? I'd remove the main synth until after the drop (Work on a good build up to introduce the main hook)
Drums sound slightly weak maybe put 3 snares together then whack some reverb on to really get a pound. Mid bass synth works well I would maybe use that for the main hook and stick a nasty sub behind it!!

@Phigure loving the sub bass and the percussion in general I am a proper perc and sub whore so this is up my street! I like what you got so far a good base to start on, Just give it some structure and it will be one step closer! gonna follow you on SC :W:

So I have had a week off from work and I have been up 24 hours straight I started a project earlier put a few hours in then stopped and started another one and put a few more hours in to it. I'm not 100% sure on keeping them because it might be the lack of sleep confusing me

Any feedback appreciated! big ups!

Guys ive produced this piece using my Sennheiser hd-201 headphones. Basically im not too sure how it sounds on anything else because my ipod headphones are broken and im at uni atm so i havnt brought my krk's up yet. My mate said there was a bit too much sub going on and the kick was too loud and it was muffling everything else out when it hit. In terms of mastering/mixing/levels n that, can you tell me what needs to be done to make the mix better?

@SubSynth , I agree about it being too repetitive, shake it up a little, I do love the sounds you've used. The drums are nice too.

@Ts Engage, I know it's just a clip, what sort of build are you gonna do? is this the drop? Nice thick sound from the synth/

@inthecrowd. Liek the minimalistic feel, very cool track, chilled, but not boring. Really nice sequence of sounds (in the second track).

Thanks, i spent aaaages trying to get a sound i was happy with. Its got a build up in the original track im doing which does a slight pattern with the drums and vocals then cuts out with white noise and then hits a snare before the drop(the clip i uploaded is the drop)

Is there not too much sub in it?

InTheCrowd - Tonight: great tune :o i think less reverb on the drums would make it better, or maybe just lower the level of the reverb. great sound design!

Phigure - Murk: jesus that's some sound design. i think all that this needs is for some of the little beeps and stuff to be brought down level wise, specifically the one that is panned super far to the right. great clip!

Astral - wi: i'd say the only thing that i don't like on this is the way the kick sounds on its own haha, when it's in with all the bass it sounds fine though. Those high notes on the bassline are great. also maybe a better sound for that synth line/pad in the intro and the bit at the end would help i think; the melody for it is good but the sound feels kind of weak. good tune!

my tune: how is the sub?? more sub?

perfect, thanks. exactly the type of feedback I'm looking for. liking the shuffle of the percussion, but the 16th notes could use some swing. more sub is definitely a good idea. like the stab sounds. i think a lot of the sounds could use a bit of reverb. other than that i'm liking it.

@Deconstruct: The vocals are badass, but the synth and the drums are distracting. There's almost too much groove, as all the drums are syncopated. There's not enough synth, and the sub should be sharper around the 80k range. Musically, it has no real structure, and you've made the classic mistake of ignoring the facts that keys exist. The vocals could use some aux verb, and some cutting back and mixing in general. Once you eliminate that first drum sound, the weird click, it's better. The chorus thing needs work. I don't really like it at all, sorry mate.

@ComfiStile Those drums are fucking sexy, bro. I absolutely love it. The kick is nice and punchy, the synths beautifully spaced. I think the kick might be a bit too loud actually, as it's overpowering the synths. I like the little arpeggio thing. Yeah, kick's definitely too loud, and bass is too droney. Apart from that, this song is amazing man/woman. Oh wait. There's a part where the kick is so loud, it's distorted, and I'm listening to mixing headphones. The "drop" after it is fantastic though.

Here's mine! Please go heavy on the feedback, no holds barred, as it doesn't even have a verse part yet. Just the drop.

Ascian: Nice vibes, I like the stereo of the bass sitting seemingly left and right but not center. Snare could do with a bit of work, sounds a bit flat.

ts engage: Sounds similar to what I've been doing recently, perhaps drop that vocals pitch a bit, its personal taste but its almost getting chickmunk-like.

Comfistile: Nice vibes, love the intro, strong percussion, the only thing I have trouble with is the familiar elements in the song seem to fade quite often, it doesn't feel a case of verse chorus verse, rather than verse and chorus changing every time.

I Rebuilt that earlier WIP into a bit of tearout style: Feedback welcomed. Its just ideas at the moment, while the drop is non-existent and the middle element is very empty

ascian - This is creative, for what it is. I really love the first drop, it's not too noisy, just right. The part that starts around 1:00 though I don't much like, it doesn't match the rest of the tune very much. And the sections that sound like Rustie's synths seem a bit out of place too; too many different sets of sounds are going on - you should try to stick to one of those and nail it down for a whole tune instead of going for so many different elements in one track.

snick01 - The vocals are definitely drowned out by everything else. Bass seems like it's too high, I honestly would have thrown it down 1 octave, but I guess if this is what you're gonig for, then you got it. It's much too loud also; just as another point. The drums could be pulled out a bit more as well, they're a bit hidden behind the bass as well.

subsynth - this is a bit too repetitive - it never really goes anywhere. Maybe a bit more space would be helpful, the entire track is just full of the same thing over and over - no breathing space.

comfistile - The synth is a bit soft at the beginning, it doesn't really add anything being that soft. Also, the drums are overpowering everything else quite a bit at the beginning. When it goes to the behind the wall effect after 1 minute, it sounds too mashed up, it's not very clear - turn it down a bit. The synths after this section are tight though, I love them. Drums are very boring though - too repetitive.

deconstruct - There is no sub at all as far as I can hear. It feels very empty without a low end - get that bass heavier and down there further.

Been gone a while, but this is what i've hit up in the last week or so. Let me know what you think - mixing and structure feedback would be most helpful:

yeah the bass on that tune was a little lacking when i bounced it, once soundcloud converted it it completely annihilated any traces of it...

R3N3gAD3:
Nice track, I couldn't really feel the kick because you had it hitting so many times, and i might turn it up a little bit.
Try adding a sub bass layer under it all, to make it feel a bit fuller, its running a bit thin at the moment.
Apart from that the arrangement is pretty cool, keep it up man!

Astral
Really digging that lead, its nice and heavy, but the patterns got a bit repetitive sometimes, also i feel like that sound would sound really nice with maybe on the last half bar of for example every second loop holding down the note to create more of a filling change and break from repetition :D
Keep it up!

Ascian
Really liking the idea of the drop, sounds all fit together nicely, and the mix is spot on i feel. only suggestion is maybe adding in a really light lead during the presidents speech, i found it a bit plain but the speech idea is cool! An example would be maybe that saw you use later on, the whole loop or maybe just that part until that one held down note, maybe throwing that in twice during the intro(or whatever synth you want) as i felt the pads and drums weren't enough. Really liking the ideas and uniqueness of it, good job! :)

ahem... now for mine, I decided to spend today working on more melodious dubstep for the first time, and this is just a clip from a part of the drop. Greatly appreciated if you could let me know how I`m doing, Thanks a lot in advance!

Really feeling the vibe of the track man, really does sound epic haha! Only thing I can think of is you need a well beefier bass. It just sounds too weak when it drops man, but everything else about it is awesome!

Rebel

Tracks sweet man, loving the melody at the start! Bass is nice, could still be tweaked a bit and a bit more variety added, but solid so far!

wwwmoo

One of the best tracks I've heard in a while around here, fucking love it. Send me a copy when finished <3 Alicia is one of my fav tracks, this deffo does it justice!

@ Ascian - Digging the intro and drop bro its tight... looking forward to seeing where you take it and how you end it.

@ wwwmoo - Tight... digging the vocal.

@ nnny - Nice vibe man, work on the drums a lil try get them punching thru the mix... maybe lower the levels on everything else?

Check Out my WIP... Almost finished, let me know your thoughts.
