Reach:Zenith - Finest Hour (DubStep/Filth/Ambient)

Post by ReachZenith » Thu Sep 29, 2011 6:12 pm

http://soundcloud.com/reachzenith/finest-hour

This is my 3rd/most-recent song that I have made. Notice it is my 3rd song so I am still very new. I've only been making music on my computer for about 3-4 weeks now. I use Komplete 8 plug-ins and FL Studio 10 to put everything together.

One problem I know that I have been having with my tracks is that they sound kind of distant to me but when I listen to lets say Rusko, Skrillex, or Chase & Status, their songs sound like they are right in your face. So if anyone could give me general feedback on this song or simple dubstep tips, that I could apply to later songs, then that would be great. Also tips on how to get my songs to sound not so distant would be excellent as well.

Much Obliged,
R:Z

Not bad for your 3rd attempt buddy! Nice ideas in there, I like the sample before the drop.

Here are some pointers to help you out:
Embed your soundcloud files in posts because people are lazy and don't want to click links. Get all the samples you can get your hands on, this will give you lots more to play with and make each track completely different. Check youtube for production masterclasses (Dodge and fuski havae done some nice ones recently for beginners!). And most importantly keep practicing! Try to finish as many tracks as you can and not have hundreds of half finished ones. You will learn alot more!

In return please take the time to check out my track and give some feedback!

Soundcloud

Thanks,
Droptek

Thanks so much for your input. I was always hearing so much about sampling but never really understood it until I found this forum (3 or so days ago). But I will totally check out those videos you mentioned and I'll see if I can figure out the embedding thing for soundcloud.

Thanks again.

Edit: Wicked song also. I was bobbing my head with a slight bang to it. I don't know what feedback I can give other than Good Job!

some good ideas in there for sure.... the structure of the tune is proper.. , needs a mix baaaaaaaad , the drums were a soft in the mix and the snare doesnt really fit the feel of the track, its more like a rock snare...also you cant hear them at all when the drop hits...
you need to eq , compress and limit the bass and wobbles they are muddy too. the intro could have used a catchy synth or argeggio and some more buildup elements...keep it at bruv !

I couldn't agree more with you man. I just started my fourth song a few days ago after I found this site....which this site made me rethink and learn a lot about my songs. Like EQing and mixing and compressing and everything else that is needed to make a song sound correctly and have everything fit into the song, which hadn't been done in my past songs, but i've spend hours doing that on this fourth song. Thanks for the input man, much appreciated.
