The best thing I found to improve my production was sitting next in with mates who write tunes & asking questions.
Watching is the best thing you can do, I learnt so much stupid shit
about the sequencer (Cubase) that makes life so much easier.
Bigup Spherix / Cubist / Livewire
I found Cubase the easiest thing to get my head around and
would recommend it. But everyones using everything so yea *shrug*
Here's a list of things I would start with getting:
Cubase SX3
Waves Diamond Bundle v5
Audio Damage Dub Station
Antares Tube
Camelphat
Sonalksis bundle
Elemental Audio Inspector XL ( I prefer this graphic analyzer to the waves on)
Have a look for some synths like albino/blue/hydra.
Don't download 100s of plugs either, waste of time.
Learn one or two inside out
If your comfortable in Fruity, stay in Fruity.
Give Cubase a go though, if you have any problems, just ask in here?
What exactly are you having problems with in Cubase?
Im not an expert at production, but Im sure I could help with things
Easy

Well i think i need to watch the rest of the 60,000 hours of video tutorials i downloaded for cubase to save askin any stupid questions lol! i tried reason aswell, fruity i understand how to get some noises out of, and had a good play, made a couple of (amature) tracks. reason and cubase i can barely get noises out of and defo cant get them racked up into any kind of structure lol, as you do on fruity with the little *highlight box for sound method* back to the tutorials then i guess lol
