Who has KRKs?
was thinkin of investing in the Rokit 6's but I have no idea what they are like and looking up youtube vids is pointless cause ya don't get the hear the true sound coming from them and also no one plays dubstep through them... If anyone could give me some insight that would be sweet!

Re: Who has KRKs?
I got the RP8's, and they're pretty tight. Keep in mind they aren't supposed to be bassy or anything, they're supposed to be flat, so you know exactly how your mix sounds. The RP8's can get pretty loud though, and i can hear bass from outside my house if I turn it all the way up.
Re: Who has KRKs?
I know that dude got 3 years of Recording college under my belt
Thanks for the feedback.
Have your heard the 6's by any chance?

Re: Who has KRKs?
the true sound cant really be judged by a youtube video. go to your local guitar center and just try them out

Re: Who has KRKs?
I have RP5s. Really good monitors IMO, although supposedly Rokits exaggerate the low end. With the 5inch models though they don't respond down much past maybe 55Hz (this is just a guess, haven't actually done a proper test) so working with sub can be a bit challenging at times.
Re: Who has KRKs?
I got 6's. There not the flattest monitors u will ever here and use probably seen they only go down to about 50hz but they are pleasing to work with. When i heard them in my local store's monitor room i heard them next to samson rubicon r6a's and a bunch of behringer and and other low end monitors, he also showed me a few of the more expensive genelecs and whatever. I found the rokit 6's to be a tad boxy and didn't match the top end of the r6a's…But they are so nice to work with so there "faults" sort of work for them. IMO they are still flat enough to get a solid mix, but have that aggressive bite in the mids that make them a pleasure to work with, especially if u follow the philosophy creativity>technicality
However once i got them home my room is so terrible i may as well be mixing on iPod ear phones, but the HF adjust on the back has helped so i guess thats another selling point if your not lucky enough to enjoy a good room

Re: Who has KRKs?
can i recomend 6's aswell. i think your supposed to mix your subs using anylisers anyway. i have 8's there way too big for my room...
Re: Who has KRKs?
I've got the RP8's. They sound fine... They are a bit bass heavy but I like that since I enjoy listening to music on it as well
I'm not sure what your budget is but for the same price as the RP80 you could get the superior (in terms of flat sound) HS80's by Yamaha.
Aaanyways, dont be afraid to run to the shop and ask to pop in your ipod and just have a listen yourself

Re: Who has KRKs?
To be honest, i think they're cheap crap. I bought some rokit 8's, one of them had a buzzing coming from inside it so i sent it back straight away. the one they sent me to replace it has a bit more hiss than my other one! i can't win. i just want them to work. the sound qualitys ok but the hiss is annoying. its there even when i haven't plugged any leads in.
they go pretty loud, as loud as you'd ever need to produce music anyhow. i've actually got the gain turned down on mine as i sit quite close to them. in all fairness i can't hear the hiss when producing, its just when theres no sound. i should have waited and bought a more expensive set of monitors, but they're ok for now.

This dosn't look good. Was wanting to get a set myself! Might look into the fostex monitors, hear good things.
Re: Who has KRKs?
Thanks for all the replies guys. I suppose it all kinda boils down to personal taste as well. As for testing out the monitors...I live in Ireland and it is complete shit for music, If i was to listen to a pair of monitors I would have to order them in from somewhere else and they won't do that unless they know your goin to buy them (which is complete bullshit). So thats why i had to ask about em.
I'll just have to go with what you peeps say and compare to others and weigh out the pros and cons.

I've got the 6's... Great monitors IMO, I can mix pretty accurately with them. of course they're not the best but surely more than enough for my home studio!

Re: Who has KRKs?
I have the 6's too. I'm pretty happy with them, though I have no real say in the matter as I'm sure they are the only monitors I've ever actually heard.
They are loud and they are a tad bassy. Fantastic sounding though. I imagine that they'd sound even better if I had my room treated.

Did you check ALL your connections? that could be a ground loop issue and not the monitors... had this problem myself...fixed it with checking all the connections from wall plugs to all cords plugged into computer and soundcard and monitors + a ground loop interrupter. Getting a power conditioner to plug your whole system into will help this as well.

Re: Who has KRKs?
I have the KRK 8's and they are good/great starter monitors but they are pretty colorful. I would recommend the HS80M's (I wish I would've bought those instead,I used to have them back in the day) . If you can afford it, go for Adams and call it a day. Also you will never be able to hear what a certain set of monitors sounds like through your internet because you will ultimately be listening through your computer speakers or whatever your monitoring situation currently is.

Re: Who has KRKs?
yeah i've tried them in different power sockets, and even tried removing the earth pin to see if it made a difference. i had a ground loop from the pc to the speakers which i solved by earthing the card, but that was a separate issue(i could hear cpu whine and hard drive noise through the monitors).fragments wrote:Did you check ALL your connections? that could be a ground loop issue and not the monitors... had this problem myself...fixed it with checking all the connections from wall plugs to all cords plugged into computer and soundcard and monitors + a ground loop interrupter. this is just a hiss, like high pitched white noise. its not overly loud, just annoying as i can hear it when i'm sat up close. i can't hear it if i'm further away, but the point in nearfield monitors is to be near them. and the hiss is louder in the replacement speaker than the other one, which is why i thought it must be the speaker.
so basically i've had 2 dodgy krk's and can't be bothered to send it back. i'd be without a monitor for a few days which would suck. i'm just not very impressed with them, although everyone else seems to like them. i'll go for a more expensive brand in the future, and keep the krk's as a secondary monitor to check mixes on.
