best PAID fx/processers

I've got around 1000 dollars I want to blow on some plugins, maybe some hardware. I'm looking for some really dirty VSTs (bitcrushers, vocoders, filters). I am new to dubstep, so please recommend any of the types of processing used on sick wobz. I have a pretty firm engineering backround, so I'll be able to figure it all out. What are the most common VSTs used for post processing and what should I buy!?

I'd advise against dropping $1000 on new anything until you've figured out how to use what you've already got at your disposal.

Wubs advice is stellar. But if you really want most of the paid synths a lot of producers use, look up the native instruments Komplete

I wouldn't bother with NI Komplete. The only things you'll ever be using on it are FM8, Reaktor, Kontakt, and maybe Massive. Just get FM8, Directwave (like Kontakt but way cheaper), your choice of additive/subtractive synth (Massive, Albino, whatever) then you still have a few hundred to spend on high-end effects (Camelphat, Camelspace, PSP nitro, etc.) I'd much rather have that than Komplete...

Yeah man, the only things you'll ever end up using in NI Komplete is like, you know.. MOST of what Komplete actually is...

Come on, no one uses absynth and guitar rig anymore. Its all about omnisphere (if you really want to make dubstep basses, that is). The big names aren't using amp modelers anyway; they're using amplitube for ipad. Duh.

It`s a no brainer.
But Kontakt is why I`d buy Komplete.
And Battery kits

I've been digging Melda Productions MRythmizer for glitchy and gated weirdness, not too pricey at $50 U.S. and free updates for life. I was using dblue's glitch plug but it seems to crash Cubase sometimes.

op : forget everything about any type of plugin, and shell out as much as u can on a stable, very very fast computer cpu wise... with good memory.

the MOST important part of workflow imo

I dig their EQ, sure, but i only bought their oddball collection-- the ubercomp, bitcrusher and filter. any of them is worth the price of the collection; can't think of a mix in the last 3 years that i've done that i haven't used at least the compressor on. fantastic tools for tone shaping.

I also use freeG all the time for phase, gain control and level control pre-automation; makes mixes alot easier.

I agree with making sure you have a solid setup. I think its important for us to know what you already have... good monitors and/or headphones are key, and of course a quality computer. There's tons of free plugins too. Id say play around with those and save your money until you know what you need. I have komplete and plenty of hardware, but what the stuff I end up using in every song is the cheap/free stuff.

Dave, I swear we are brothers from other mothers... I was pretty much gonna say the same thing.

I also liked playing with their Stereo Tools and their Max Limit is surprisingly clean, but the ones I bought were the TBK series - and I use em all the time too. They are definitely plugs that take a lil' playing around with to find how they best work for you, but I use the ubercomp a lot for shaping.. and I've lost count the number of times I used the bitcrusher as a send for hats to give that extra little sparkle without sounding like the typical "bit-crushed hats".

Also - FreeG is one of the best freebies ever. It is super clean and eliminates all sort of mixing headaches when working with materials of radically different volumes.

Personally I also think you should take a look at the Audio Damage collection... amazingly fair priced for the quality of the plugins.

I use many of them all the time - but..

- Eos & Dubstation are permanently in my send effects (Verb & Delay respectively) templates.
- Fluid is a chorus I have used on almost every single synth lead I have ever used.
- Ronin is a modular effect - almost hard to describe, but it is a beast.
- Dr. Device - 4 pole filter madness
- Replicant - beat slicing & stuttering

...and on & on.
