using audio to modulate? the opposite of a sidechain?
hey guys, i'm looking for a way to modulate MIDI with audio, in a way that's sort of the opposite of a sidechain.. as in, when you sidechain B, it ducks when A hits, right? i want B to increase in volume when A hits, and when B isn't making any noise, B isn't making any noise. anyone know a way? if doing this to midi with audio isn't possible I can always bounce the data and do it audio to audio. modulating stuff with midi is common knowledge but i'm not sure i've ever heard of using audio data to duck/boost something? WILL IT BLEND?

What DAW are you using? I know you can do this in Ableton and FL easily.

The good news is that it is possible
The bad news is you need Max for Live which costs 250$

just sidechain gate B to A, that would be the opposite of sidechain compressing. Put a gate/expander on the channel, adjust the noise floor, threshold, attack and release to taste, and use A as the control signal. plenty of gates should allow that routing
if you don't want to bounce the data, and can't get the signal to work you could just copy the midi notes into a new lane, and tell them to control a plugin like a comp, gate, or just some gain knob on B. last resort.... ride dem faders.
