Sorry for having some interest in what people like. I wouldn't be much of an artist if that wasn't on my mind, right?

I like his voice/style. I notice some old 60s-70s R&B & dub influence which I relate to and enjoy. I've always been more into female vocals, but I appreciate his. Also even when it's not "dubstep" I still sense dub inspiration. Stripped down, minimal, spacey etc.

it's half hype. some people genuinely like it, some people like it because they think it's cool to like.

Yeah but thats with everything. Tv, Movies, books, etc. So it's a non factor that should have no direct bearing on James Blake

I'd agree with this. James Blake is great song writer with a distinctive voice.Justin Bieber is a kid who sings songs about "love" in order to make him and his record company money. He CAN sing, even though he chooses to sing comformist pop shite.
The thing most people dont get is, one persons opinion doesnt matter, but a big demographic does. If somebody told me my music was shit id say "thats your opinion" but if everybody came up to me and said it id have to take a look at myself.
For the record i love james blake. I think its refereshing to see someone genuinely trying to make good music with the support they have rather than trying to write a number 1 and collaborating with JLS. Touch wood...

That's where his fans typically go. "You must not understand music if you don't like James Blake, blah blah, di blah blah."
I've never heard anyone say this.

James Blake is a fucking genius... Pan/Order shows why he is still relevant to "dubstep" or "bass music", or whatever you want to call it. Need to sit down and give his new release on Atlas a proper listen.
