Fantastic Mr Fox

Post by Ldizzy » Thu Oct 13, 2011 5:07 pm

Here's another dude's work im obsessed with.. for a whole year ive been bedazzled by the guys tunes... especially the one below..

anyone attempted to produce stuff like this?

how do u construct grooves like that... and what happens when the groove shifts at 1:47 .... like it becomes triplets or something...

also, that organ that seems to come from James Blake's prophet 8... what's that sound??

these are basic questions and i do have a hint about them... but id like to stir a debate about this type of production...

its a heavenly tune innit?

I dunno about the organ but this groove wouldn't be possible without swing beats.

hmm.. it's cool... idk why you'd be mystified.. the "organ" sounds just like filtered square + white noise... filtered saw for bass... a few drum samples, soul vocal samples...

it just sounds like garage that's been infused with minimal tech.. soulful + perky + groovy + spacey.. i think you just have to be feelin the groove to make this kinda stuff, i don't think it's technically that brilliant..

The beats really aren't complex imo, just focus on using "small" sounds. That may take pitching samples up. Then keep the sustain of the hits on zero and the decay pretty low.

That's a pretty sick tune OP though, really been meaning to listen to his stuff :Q:

Also, I like his bassdrum.

I reckon he probably synthesizes it himself. I do that in 3xOsc.

Making drum samples ftw :W:

swing beats is just automated off grid...

u could drag pieces around and end up having sicker grooves...mattafact... i really feel like anything "on grid" or merely swung wouldnt work...

think burial.. that dude doesnt use swing...
