Interesting Dilemna on set list

Post by MrGnarly » Sun Oct 16, 2011 5:23 pm

Last month I second staged for J. Rabbit in SD.

http://www.facebook.com/photo.php?fbid= ... =3&theater

and this month I just got booked to open for Doctor P and Cookie Monster.

https://www.eventvibe.com/event-info/Am ... a/134260x5

Last month I didnt play any J.Rabbit tunes at all, because i felt it was "wrong" or something. Now there is alot of tunes by both cookie and doctor p I love playing. Is there some sort of unwritten rule I dont know about? Does it even matter?

WHat>? No songs sound different. Depends also on how you mix them in.....

You could (in theory) loop, say, big boss for a whole hour and no-one in the crowd will ever know. Easy.

It would just depend on what screechy or whistle sounding mid range bassline blended best together wouldnt it.

So it isnt taboo or anything, because i was considering not playing any of their tunes but the better part of me says fuck it. If one of there songs is good for the crowd and the night ill use it.

Never ask for help on a forum, you wont get a serious answer.

Serious answer;

No.

Steer well clear of songs from their back catalogue, their labelmates, associated remix acts they may have done. Play stuff that is similar by all means (less frenetic are you're warming up, but you don't need me to tell you that ;)), but steer away from anything they may have had a hand in directly.

It's just polite.

play a set consisting of only cookie monster and doctor p songs, they will be extremely flattered by this, and will proceed to suck your dick after the show.

I'd at least recommend opening with Sweet Shop, Doctor P will be flattered. After all, as a major name in the dubstep world who is constantly innovating and pushing the sound forward, the Doctor will no doubt turn up with a bag full of unheard dubplates, and won't be remotely interested in dropping his old stuff. :W:

its really important that you show your respect for their music by playing a lot of their stuff, as has been said, they will no doubt have some new tunes in their bag that sound so unique and different from all the rest of their older stuff
