I like the release Dussky had on Broken Bubble and I'll check this out when I get home.

I think the discussion around it being a game changer though is more about you finding yourself backed into a corner because you've gone maybe a little overboard in an attempt to promote your blog via the Dussky tracks. I understand you are trying to get something going and I applaud that but of your 112 posts at time of posting you have to have 80% in threads you've either started or gotten involved in to promote either your release or your blog. This is why I'm relatively confident that while it will be very good it's less likely to be a game changer than you are suggesting.

You can, and most likely will ignore this post, or decide to take offence at a post that isn't intended to offend but when you talk about game changing or you talk about turning reggae on it's head (really turning reggae on it's head with your first release? seriously?), your overcooking it to the point that threads are more likely to be about what you are writing here than about what tunes you are making or the blog you are trying to promote.

wut?

i think u are being overly critical, yes i have a release out in november, but that is not related at all to the duskky track, i jsut think it deserves more attention and forums are a way of telling people whats going on. perhaps i got over-excited about the duskky track but that is cause its quality music??? further, this forum seems to be dominated by either trolls, useless threads about skillex or brostep, i say let the music do the talking and quit complaining cause i am adding to the forum where others are simply destroying it.

in regards to my release, of course i am going to big it up, i mean are u seriosuly expecting me on my own website/blog not to???! what planet are u living on!!!

in terms of my blog, its a two way thing, if i discover a track worth shouting about, of course i want to share it but its only fair if my blog gets a mention too, cause otherwise whats the point in finding stuff to write about, dont get me wrong i love looking out for music and shit, but at the end of the day evey little helps, plus there are now pages upon pages of other peoples music, so its not like its a 100 percent about me.

it's not a post it's a trend that runs throughout your posts, when you big up something too much people will be less likely to give your shouts any credence.

I'm done, I admit I was kinda pissed with the Nu Reggae thing as I find it arrogant as I also find the claim from your blog that your release turns the old reggae sound on its head. But fair play you have a release and of course you're entitled to big it up where have I suggested that you shouldn't?

Anyway good luck

unfortuately in this world of mass production u kinda have to stand on ur own soap box and say what u gotta say otherwise no one will bother with u, especially if u have no rep and its ur first release, in a perfect world i would love to jsut sit back but there are people shouting louder and if u dont get peoples attention then u will lose out, its plain and simple. realistically i dont care about labels, but they are useful to help people identify with a type of sound, as i explained thus there was some logic to my reaosning of nu reggae. in terms of my release, i have to say something positive about it cause well it all helps! i am geunine music fan at the end of the day so i understand ur issues, but i think ur making a mountain out of a molehill tbh...

Alistairr wrote:yeah but u could say that about any form of music really, its something taken from something else to create something "relatively speaking" new... ???

it shouldnt be the sample or drum break that is the issue but what the artist does with that sample/drum break and thats why i think its a game changer, as the track clearly has a lot of influences modern and old, which are worth taking into account.

I dont really mind you biggin stuff up, and the tunes cool so its all good mate. Music is always taken from something before but in this case I think youll find everything in there, the sounds, the way theyre used, the tempo, every second of it has been done by people like 4hero and Photek in the 90s and continues to this day through a range of artists, and again people have done this sort of thing recently within Dubstep. But I dont want to get into a long thing over it and mes sup your thread, its just a difference of opinion/perspective. Regardless we should be biggin up the track because its cool.

would u liek to explain why this is clearly not a game changer when it totally is...?
because it sounds like 100s of tracks with beats like this made over the last 20 years? This was nothing new before Dubstep even existed, technically its some form of breakbeat, 2006 era Dubstep is still less retro than this.
I would even throw in this beauty from 2001.

Dub it up or listen to bloody BBC Radio 3 for some proper jazz... not that they're bad tracks though some more interesting production would be warranted to call it 'dubstep'!

Always good to see Duskky getting some attention (and igniting some debate!) We've released two more EPs by him on Broken Bubble this year and he had another out on Open Legs. Check some of these...
