university

Post by lvl6 » Wed Oct 19, 2011 3:28 pm

Hey, thinking of moving uni because mine is so crap (heriot-watt, edinburgh - an engineering uni miles out of the city centre)

i really want somewhere where the uni really has something to offer in terms of music facilities, a campus close to the centre and a good quality of people/teaching im not really sure what i want to study any more but am floating towards something creative as thats what interests me, so if anyone could suggest a good uni for the arts that lists those qualities it would be sweet. but alternatively im interested in biology (doing marine bio atm) and ancient history

can anyone suggest any cities that have an amazing night life, i.e dnb, dubstep, garage, disco nights and music scene? i think leeds is really good and manchester, obviously london. i come from bristol and i loved this city! i really want to go somewhere similar, can anyone share their experiences?

i just want to know what the actual people who go there think of the place, not what the reviews say

cheers, tom

any big city mate

in terms of music scenes, you named the top 4 really, london/bristol/manchester/leeds... also Nottingham is meant to be pretty bangin, and Liverpool is cool from what i've seen and heard, Glasgow has a wicked scene, as does Edinburgh

i went to Leeds, it was top

i live in manchester, it is top

:D

good luck!

Shit answer, I know, but what year are you in?

It might be worth sticking it out for a year or two making what you can of Edinburgh and then moving somewhere with more going on once you get a degree, rather than committing yourself to an absolute shitload of extra debt, particularly if you haven't got a particularly strong idea of what you want to do and why you want to do it...

im in 1st year, yeah good point its going to be so difficult to move etc. i wouldnt mind staying in edinburgh actually, but its just the uni is so shit all there is is the union, the sports union a loch and loads of international students who just go around in bunches really it is a load of bollocks :u:
cheers for your replies, going to still look into my options for those cities even though apparently i have to do all of this before the 24th... fml lol

If you're really not happy then I think you should definitely change now. You're only in uni once and so you want to make the most of it - you don't want to end up regretting staying there when its too late to change
Im in manchester at the moment and the scene here is amazing, love it!

yeah man, its so stressful though, literally just shifting my life around and i want to be cheeky and somehow get in before they raise the fees next year. so kind of switch courses/unis in december (if i can) although i think it will be right tricky to convince my dream uni to take me on since ive been chopping and changing, plus i dont have the best grades (BBD)

nightmare - all future procrastinators behold!!!

Any uni in Glasgow really, Caledonian University & Strathclyde both bang in the middle of the centre of town! Oh, and Glasgow has an amazing nightlife.

All about Leeds. You've got the University of Leeds, Leeds Met, and the Leeds College of Art all of which are really close to the centre. Momentum last Friday of each month (this month it's Youngsta (DnB set), Spinline, BTK, Octane & DLR - 28th of October for £6 before 00:00), obviously Exodus/Sub Dub/DMZ, Tropical, Liquid Steel Sessions. Faversham's a nice place which hosts a few odds and ends every now and then (Hessle Audio's 116 & Rising tour lands there on the 28th as well) but it's not a reliable haunt as far as quality goes.

There do seem to be a lot of London people on my course, but only like 40% so it could be worse. I came here cos it was miles from where I lived (all of my choices were  )
