HOW DO I SYNTH DROP?
this questions been bothering me.
THE SYNTH DROPS
I know this video has nothing to do with dubstep but it gets what im asking across
ive only found one way to emulate it and to actually go to my cdj to record me playing the sample
run it through and hit the stop to make it brake.
then run it through production and edit it.
now.. i know with 2 million percent certainty that theres an easier way.
at 1:07 it explains what i mean. im sure theres better songs out there with better drops but how can i do these drops?.

Re: HOW DO I SYNTH DROP?
just sounds like pitch bending and filter attack/decay switched up a bit... idk I was expecting something crazy that seemed pretty straightforward

Re: HOW DO I SYNTH DROP?
yuh just use pitch bend, thought you might have to adjust the amount of p. bend to a higher value, most synths are preset to 2 semitones. OR get hold of something like sugarbytes artillery/effectrix or GlitchVST which have all these vinyl imitation fx in them.
be aware this effect has been done to death recently, every other pop track has it in some way or another, so maybe u should try experimenting with it a bit instead of just doin the same old turn off the turntable effect and see if something cool happens?

Re: HOW DO I SYNTH DROP?
So your just tyring to emulate a platter stop/slowdown sound on your synth? If i understand right then grab Supatrigga. Play aournd with using the SLow Prob - Set to Max. Slow Speed set to taste. Select 1 slice and make sure the prob sliders are 0 for the other effects. Now disable the plugin. Cue and Record, when you synth line gets tot he point where you want to "drop it" then turn the supatrigga on and you should get a platter slow down effect on your synth part. YOu may have to fiddle with slices and slow down speed to get it exactly how you want.

Re: HOW DO I SYNTH DROP?
how do you go about automating the pitch on only the last note?
i know how to automate pitch (use massive/sylenth) but not sure how to get that last note to drop?
thx for the responses.

Re: HOW DO I SYNTH DROP?
The other option is to export the synth line as a .wav, load it into a sampler, and mess with the pitch there. The reason I bring it up is because it opens a lot of other possibilities of modifying the sound that you'll dig.

using logic. sry not trying to thread hijack.
anyway thanks for the ideas. will try them out. sampler idea sounds like it would work well.

create an automation clip for the pitch and just drop it on the last note?bigdaveo11 wrote:how do you go about automating the pitch on only the last note?

Re: HOW DO I SYNTH DROP?
The those using Ableton, the easiest way by far to do this is simply automate the pitch/fine pitch in frequency shifter.

Re: HOW DO I SYNTH DROP?
heres the issue though. i dont want to have the pitch to be disturbed from the FL studios slide pitch because when i want the flowwing progression to continue i need it to be exactly at the original pitch without hearing a slide, and yeah ill look into getting Supatrigga. sounds like a good deal to me
Re: HOW DO I SYNTH DROP?
if you're on a pc the easiest way is with glitch, either tape stop or trigger

Re: HOW DO I SYNTH DROP?
Automation and modulation are two separate things. Modulation is generally when you modulate a parameter in the synth, within the synth itself. aka, my lfo modulates the cutoff, or you modulate the pitch with an envelope. Modulation applies on every note press.bigdaveo11 wrote:how do you go about automating the pitch on only the last note?

Automation is when you do it inside your DAW, at predefined positions (like the last note for a pitch drop).

so lets say I have a bass sound with 3osc in massive. I would want to apply automation inside my daw to drop the pitch of all 3osc. Hence in massive I would need to apply a macro control to the pitch of all 3osc and use automation to control that macro knob within my DAW? is there a more efficient way to do this?
also with multiple bass layers on different synths I was wondering what the best way would be to control the pitch drops of all layers at once?
thx again.

You should be able to copy any MIDI including continuous data like pitchbend, and paste the MIDI clip onto a new channel. should include pitch bends, notes, aftertouch, mod wheel, and any other data that's part of the original midibigdaveo11 wrote: also with multiple bass layers on different synths I was wondering what the best way would be to control the pitch drops of all layers at once?
