I need help with some mixer/monitor/sound wiring...

OK. So i produce via my computer, and my sound card output is a stereo 1/8" mini. I want to run this to my Alesis M! Active 520 Monitors (powered monitors with individual inputs of 1/4" TRS each, one left one right.) I got a Behringer Mixer;

so that I can control the volume without having to use the individual controls on the back of each monitor, and also because I thought I would be able to route from my 1/8" TRS mini jack from my sound card into the mixer with a converter to 1/4" TRS jack. However, as I am an audio newb, I didn't know you could not do that....

Is it true that this particular mixer can only take a mono signal in each jack input? (So you need the stereo signal to already be split before it enters the mixer?)

If so what would be the best way to deal with this? What is the norm for audio experts in this situation. Should I get a stereo splitter cable going from from 1 stereo 1/8" from my sound card and splitting into two 1/4" TRS monos? Would there be a loss in sound quality going that route?

I can clear up and confusion with my question if it was in any way poorly worded...

Yeah you've got the right Idea, spit the signal and use two channels on your mixer.
