Finally, autumn is upon us. The atmospheric temperature has decreased significantly enough for Synclan to send his care-package down from the mother ship to share with the rest of the Dubstep Universe. Adopting the terrestrial moniker, Shane Ynclan, this energetic producer calls Sacramento, CA his stomping ground, but his music lives in the hearts and heads of everyone it touches. This particular album embodies Synclan’s self-stated quest to provide his listeners with the most memorable, and fully-developed musical experience he can offer. Humility, and selfless dedication to the listener’s enjoyment, characterize his approach to production.

In each song from this release, Synclan achieves an exceptionally high level of movement and life. His arps are always subtly panning and modulating as heard in “HI!” his swells and stabs in, “Like Whoa” produce layers of cushioning background from which his leads can stand out like the stars they are meant to be. Synclans attention to space is perfectly expressed in in this piece as some of the sounds seem to rise and retreat from nowhere, all the while supported by an almost undetectable basso continuo. With a keen sense of subtlety and purpose Synclan is able to make every song on this release really travel. Some, like “attack” bring aggression to the fore, but balance it against some mellow reggae riffs, ravey arepeggios and melodic stabs that keep your attention moving, but not in an uncomfortable or spastic way. Others, like “Dangerzone” create the movement by giving the listener some humor, and some whimsy, but then bringing a very focused and direct lead into the mix, so that the movement comes not just from the individual sounds, but from the intended reaction to each section.

Synclan’s achievement is not purely intangible though, the technical aspect to his production is clean, precise, bright and well organized. Coming to Betamorph Recordings at the end of October, The Hi! E.P. from Synclan is a masterful showing from a talented artist who truly wants his audience to enjoy every listening moment.
