Going to my first dubstep show - HELP PLZ

Post by clueless » Thu Oct 27, 2011 6:24 pm

Need help.

My girlfriend is taking me to a dubstep show tonight. I have never listened to dubstep (except for that Skrillex/Korn song which is OK, but not rly my thing), nor do I ever really go to 'clubs.' The closest thing to this I have ever done was a Girl Talk show 3 years ago, which i cannot even remember...

I am a metalhead—I’m used to guitars, running in circles, and punching people in the face, not turntables and pop n’ locking. I don’t even know how to dance in a hip-hop style (is that even what people DO at a dubstep show?).

I’m sure you people go see this shit live. How can I have a good time? What behavior is and is not appropriate? What should I expect? How should I dance?

With your assistance I can have a good time and enjoy this fine genre of music about which I know nothing.

Any and all help appreciated. Keep in mind: I cannot do illegal drugs due to my job randomly testing; otherwise I would KNOW how to have a good time.

Thanks again.

Who are you going to see?

Basically, the heavy 'filthy' dubstep is a lot like metal, crowd wise, there may be moshing ect ect.

If it's the bass heavy, more chilled dubstep, all you need to do is skank.

I saw skrillex, and there were by far more metallers ect there than people who look like they are into dance/electronic.

I think it's... jungle and dubstep mixed? (this is all latin to me.) the DJ is from the Bronx, there is some reggae influence, knowing my girlfriend (which is cool, I like Bob Marley)

Ahh, well then it sounds like a bass heavy dubstep night. Too bad you can't get baked :P

And yea, just do what you feel like, nobody will be watching you anyhow :P

It'll likely be a pretty laid back affair, don't worry too much and just enjoy yourself.

Oh, and jungle is a sub genre of drum and bass, fast intricate drum work. Bass.

Dubstep is usually much slower and also has lots of bass, which is what I'm expecting if it's a reggae influenced night.

Then you have the kind of dubstep that skirllex and other like him make. It's dirty, heavy and has less emphasis on the Chest rattling bass. Though, a lot of this style has metal esque drums. Double kicks and such. Also usualy topless sweaty headbanging moshpits are common in the 'dirty' type.

no one cares what you look like and thats why this scene is awesome and different than mau5trap-esque mainstream electrohouse bullshit

I feel really good when it's a reggae vibe and the system kicks ass and i just lean, nod my head and spark a blunt. Not about image. Just the way i feel when its happening.. i usually close my eyes ffs.
Dance however you feel, if you feel like it at all .. should just be natural response to the music, if the music speaks to you.
Here's hoping it does!

Lies.

That might be the case where you live, but here, instant ban from most clubs.

Granted, maybe not in clubs, but bigger venues/festivals there is. Even Chase and status get circles going at bigger events.
Rock and metal bars would kick you out too for moshing.

I have never seen anyone kicked out for moshing/circling in any venue.

Now, kicking/punching... I'm glad they boot out hardcore dancers.

Don't take this too personal bro, you are one of many...but
Why is this thread not locked?

If a dude comes up to you in the street in front of a night club and asks you these question, you would point him out to your friends and join them in mocking him...
Seriously, "how do I dance?" , "What can I expect?", you would seriously google DSF, make an account and post this shit? We might be outnumbered, but some of us have been doing this shit for 15 years...I have never, ever experienced anything like this in real life....it would be a laughable matter.
On the internet, every fourteen year old or undereducated socially insecure random person can ask these stupid and superfluous questions...and apparently get a response.

It doesn't matter one fuck. You do what you gotta do, you do what you want to do. You either like it or not. This isn't a job interview, this isn't a test, there are no scene points to be won. What the fuck? Just go out there and enjoy. Or google some dubstep or whatever...

I mean, what a pure waste of everyone's time. Including mine.
I'm annoyed by all of this, where I should normally be laughing out loud reading this, after 1938 times, it apparently becomes less funny and more sad.

Enjoy your night, keep an eye out on your girlfriend, bro's tend to hit everything they can get their hands on at a dubstep night...apparently.
