Good to know thanks, its just on dj nates albums often the tunes went to 3 minutes- or is that the equivalent of learning about dubstep through mt eden?

rashad's album just a taste is really great and it has a lot of longer tracks. i recommend it

edit: oh this topic is old. whatever juke rules!! any tips on making it?? i've been trying 3/4 808s with medium attacks for basslines and it's sort of there but not really?? i have a feeling that the geographical distance between me and chicago is the biggest problem here but i would like to use some juke style sounds in my own shit ;>

im really getting into juke now, i mean at first it was like too fast and like i dunno i had only heard dj nate stuff and i dont really like his stuff so i was like juke is a bit shit, but i think like machinedrums album and the rashad and spinn rbma lecture got me more into it and open to the music. the rhythms are just mad, i dont know who does it, but that 'everyday i smoke trees' tune is sick, the rhythm just shifts all over the place and its really hard for me to follow it haha

this thread started off well but by page 5 I had my head in my palm.
Don’t worry about people stealing an idea. If it’s original, you will have to ram it down their throats.

Not feeling that ital tek at all.
Needs repetitive vocals, that's what makes it so good imo.

i like both ital tek tunes, they're a proof of concept for juke really.
shows whats possible if you do juke from a more sophisticated level of production

btw is anyone else annoyed at rashad highpassing fucking everything except the bass? sometimes i feel like if i put a de-esser on a rashad tune there will be nothing left but sub.

Yeah I know, but ghettotek stuff sounds weird with clean production. Like those murderbot tunes recently with spinn, it lost that lofi edge. Not saying someone shouldn't do that, but the cheap lofi crap sound is what drew me into in the first place along with the repetitive vox.

Rashad is probably one of the more sample oriented guys, as in often using whole sections of tunes in his tracks, not just snips. That's probably why there's a lot of high passing and filtering going on. He's got a ridiculously good crate digging ear.

I don't know if you guys have clocked this yet, but if you really want a history lesson on Juke/Ghetto House, then watch this vid:

From Jack to Juke: 25 Years of Ghetto House

As I mentioned earlier in this thread, I still prefer more of the Ghetto Tech sound from Detroit. They always came with more of the Electro Bass vibe which I love. The briefly talk about Ghetto Tech vs Juke in the vid.

i watched this and am still not convinced about juke tbh. the way they present it shows emphasis towards the dancing aspect of the music, in a sense, the dancing is more notorious then the music, which is not surprising since the music is pretty wack...

Yes the music is made specifically for the dancers in street/community competitions. Juke was really never for clubs, in fact only in the last year or 2 it's had the most club play yet in its long life. That's no doubt why there's been a new structured DJ-friendly style. Juke DJs do it battle style, 1 minute quick mixing and hard cutting. The tracks rarely last more than 1 1/2 mins or so in the mix.
