Re: broken note basses
the integrity of sound that is broken note... can it be accomplished in Reason and how lol. I know this thread is basically a waste of time but I'm dying to know how they make some of this shit.
Re: broken note basses
Does Reason have a couple decent synths and a sampler ?skyhigh wrote:can it be accomplished in Reason
Seriously, it's impossible to tell what synth/fx chain they used or how many times they resampled their bass.
Search for threads & tutorials about neuro and reese bass as well as resampling and layering.
There are quite a few good ones here : http://www.idmforums.com/showthread.php ... post425484 and a ton more on DSF. Hell, even the good ol' (?) excision/skrillex threads might help at some point.
The only additional advice I can give you is that it's not necessarily how many effects or even waveforms you'll use but how carefully you'll use them. For instance, in my (poor) experience proper EQing is a vital part of the process. Pay close attention to their bass, compare with yours and notch until you feel they're using similar parts of the frequency range.
You probably already figured that out but it's a long road

Yeah, some good tips here for sure... I've had an especially hard time not only creating a big reese sound in reason but actually being able to control the sound is tough as hell too. I shamelessly downloaded a reese bass patch for reason that kicks ass but the sound changes all on it's own and it was done in THOR which I pretty much never use. The tips on matching frequency ranges is excellent though and I hadn't thought of that.
Re: broken note basses
i'd imagine they sit on their tunes for months until they've created something incredibly complex. war in the making is still the heaviest dubstep tune i've ever heard. the artifacts in the synthesis are inimitable.
Wwoooooooiiiiiiiii
Re: broken note basses
^^^ yeah dude for sure. War in the Making is so DOPE. How does one become so talented at synthesis? I'd like to think of myself as knowledgeable enough to reach out to that next level of sound design.
Re: broken note basses
best advice ever is to just do your thing and most importantly, have fun! i think of the continual improvement of my synthesis skills to leveling up in a videogame lol. lvl 69 = broken note

Re: broken note basses
haha hell yeah. i know im getting better still after 3 years or so... so that's a good sign
