I used to get lots of mixed tapes from the Giant Step parties...they were fantastic recordings...
Not sure where the line is drawn between hip-hop(REAL HIP-HOP) and trip hop is though...

People still use the term Trip Hop? all about Massive Attack and Portishead - Dummy. PORTISHEAD FUCKING DUMMY. I don't care if it's not cool to like that album, it's fucking amazing (of course having it ingrained into your inner soul by TV and Radio in the mid Nineties probably went some way towards that, but yeah...).
I don't turn on Korn to get it on, I be playin Digi Mystikz 'til the dawn

definitely look up Any Smith (Portishead) and Massive Attacks Essential Mixes from the early 90s. two truly excellent triphop mixes, imo.

Butterfly Caught video is something I've been waiting to see, awesome video.

This thread needs a mention of Darkstar, who IMO are a very unique attribute to the modern live music scene.
North is quite a chilling album, like some of my favorite records (MBV's isn't anything, Tortoise standards, and Joy Division's unknown pleasures) wasn't really feeling it upon first listen.
Now, It's essential listening, such a gorgeous album.
