Was he asked/pressured to leave or is this out of the blue? I thought the italian people loved him?

erm, well considering he's overseen Italy's decline into massive debt and needing a bailout due to unsustainable interest on borrowing i doubt they love him that much anymore

italians dont love him, not a single bit.... he's been bleeding the country dry for 17 years, changing laws to better suit himself, connections with the mafia, total media control and alteration of facts to help keep him in power, he's basically the political equivalent of a dead rat, you want him gone but dont wanna get your hands dirty...
you should have seen the celebrations here last night, shit was like new year's eve!!!
