Statistics without sources or data collection methods make more colorful pie charts

who voted on this pie chart?

all depends which spectrum of people were asked, this strikes me as a FACT/XLR8R sponsored kind of thing, where by the people who go onto those blogs would obviously listen to podcasts and erm, read blogs

for example if it was the brostep listening masses it might look like this

That tells us that more people find out about new music on the internet than ever before
If you'd done that 10 years ago next to none of the options selected would be internet related - notably more people (especially DJs) would be going down their local record shop to check out the latest promos

goes a long way to explaining how dubstep has risen so fast

Is that to do with the change in format as vinyl is gradually superceded?

I think its a sign of the times in general. everything is going digital really isn't it? 10 years ago the internet was just starting to creep in - I would still have gone down my local record shop for tunes back then (infact I did, its almost 10 years ago to the day I bought my first DnB vinyl) now just about everything is done on the internet, from food shopping to catching up with mates to buying music etc etc

I think it was you who mentioned the internet has shortened the lifecycle and you're right. If people are finding out about new tunes online they'll share it online as well. Culture trends go global in hours rather than months. DnB took 10-15 years to blow up, hit the charts and get a mainstream sound before beginning to sound a bit washed out. Dubstep has done that in 5 years!

Charts pretty accurate for me.

I trawl the internet non-stop like a japanese shrimp boat for new music, and all of those places play equal parts. No one thing is a source.

I usually check whatever is new in my favourite recordshops. Or I go by charts/tracklistings.
