Black Sun is the best album of 2011

Post by Devry_Kaneda » Thu Nov 17, 2011 1:21 am

It's got all those dread-deep vibes ala Spaceape that connects it to kode9's old shit while still maintaining all the relevance that the dubstep-turned house producers have managed to steal.

This is not open to discussion.

This is a fact.

it's halfway through november already.

i thought the retrospectives on the past year's albums would be in full-swing by now.

might as well get the ball rolling.

Martyn, SBTRKT, pinch & shackleton, author, kuedo, damu, kode9... All great albums this year

Sully - Carriers might be the one for me tho, some killer tunes in there

I hear you tho Dev. I love cranking black sun in the ride, so much texture and sub

Black Sun didn't get as much love as it deserved but first place is definitely Sully.

There's been a load of cool albums out this year:

2562 - Fever
Anstam - Dispel Dances
Author - Author
Balam Acab - Wander/Wonder
Blue Daisy - The Sunday Gift
Clueless - Torrid Affairs
Cosmin TRG - Simulat
DJ Diamond - Flight Muzik
Egyptrixx - Bible Eyes
Emptyset - Demiurge
FaltyDL - You Stand Uncertain
Hyetal - Broadcast
Idiot Savant - Idiot Savant
Instra:Mental - Resolution 653
Irrelevant - I'll Be OK
James Blake - James Blake
Jamie Woon - Mirrorwriting (+special edition)
King Midas Sound - Without You
Kode9 & The Spaceape - Black Sun
Kryptic Minds - Can't Sleep
Kuedo - Severant
LV & Joshua Idehen - Routes
Machinedrum - Room(s)
Martyn - Ghost People
Pinch & Shackleton - Pinch & Shackleton
Roly Porter - Aftertime
Rustie - Glass Swords
Silkie - City Limits vol. 2
Spatial - Spatial
Submotion Orchestra - Finest Hour
Sully - Carrier
Swarms - Old Raves End
Tes La Rok - Them
Von D - Daydreaming
Zomby - Dedication

V/A's :

V/A - 116 and Rising (hessle audio)
V/A - Back and 4th (hotflush)
V/A - Deep Medi Volume III (deep medi)
V/A - Mosaïc Volume I (exit)
V/A - Scuba DJ Kicks Unmixed

I've omitted Damu, Sbtrkt, The Aliens and Ullrich Troyer because I simply don't like their sounds. But I guess most people would deem (some of) those purchase worthy.
I've not decided which ones I like best so far. But I think my favourite album still so far is DeepChord's "hash-bar loops"...

not really feeling black sun that much, i can only take spaceape in very small doses.

sully album is a big one, as is pinch and shackletons.

didn't know you could get scubas dj kicks unmixed, gonna have to grab a few 320's me thinks

SBTRKT - SBTRKT has been one of my favourite albums ever, really like every single song.

Jehst - Dragon of an ordinary family deserves a mention in this list as well, such a strong album!

no mention of Baobinga's Joint Ventures? Maybe not best of the year but definitely better than some on this thread.
