Side Chaining In Dubstep

I haven't used sidechaining as an EQ technique for ages. If you make your drums properly and EQ everything you shouldn't need to sidechain compress really
Using it for artistic effect though, is completely different as the tunes above demonstrate

It certainly is,i got my dog put down after 15 years of living with the muvvafukka i played that tune over and over again that night and it just destoyed me everytime lol i cried like a little girl for nearly a full day and breakage didn't really help.

naw it isn't necessary. but it can be cool.. i sc pads to give them more movement.. and not to the kick drum. I sc reverbs' output sometimes if its a long tail.
All that "excessive routing to aux's" u speak of is really stupid easy though, so if u wanna use it, it shouldnt be a problem. You put compressor on track... set sc signal to a bus, then send the control signal to that bus via one aux send. then fuck with settings til it pumps satisfactorily

Yeah you're right, it's easy to route everything but I initially felt there were easier ways to achieve the compression you need through proper EQ's. Nice track btw.

I`ve been sidechaining my kick to my pads and then notch filtering the pad rhythmically to the pumping.
It sounds fucking great.

Does anyone else just sidechain the volume? I've never used a compressor. What's the advantage? Does it sound better?

i could be wrong but I believe its just the difference between riding a fader and squashing peaks.. RMS would be higher during the ducking when using a comp. as only the portion of the signal above the threshold would be attenuated. Whereas sidechaining/automating the volume of a track will lower the signal in its entirety.

its give or take the same thing, but you get more control with a compressor by utilising attack / release settings etc

ive been experimenting with reverb and delay sidechaining over vocals and stuff.. i now understand that ive been exposed to that effect VERY often whilst i couldnt tell

it carves a nice space for the "clean" signal to come thru while adding lots of spatial complexity to ur mix
