Dubstep vs Grime

Alright guys,

I read the forum regularly, but I don't post much, however today I come to you in ask of help.

I'm writing an essay comparing and contrasting dubstep with grime for uni, and I've got quite a few ideas about how they're similar and different, but I thought I'd see if anyone else had any particularly awesome ideas before I started writing. I thought you'd probably all love an excuse to abuse grime too, so here we are ..

Very similar I guess, both are on 140 bpm and have similar sounds used in them. I suppose you could put in how grime started off as more 'grimy' (Basically eskimo productions and the oldskool Dizzee Rascal Boy In Da Corner style beats) whilst Dubstep was a more relaxed sound (DMZ/Mala style beats) Since then the two have changed, for better or worse. Grime is now more rap influenced (SX and Faze Miyake beats) whilst Dubstep of course has wobble (Cookie Monstah and Borgore beats).
Basically they've both changed down the years whilst having similar roots??

Both splintered off the dark side of UK garage in the early 2000s but at different times and in different places. Grime was mostly east london, focused on MCs, fairly chaotic rough and ready production style. Dubstep was more south and east london, MCs were a bit less important (still present, but more as hosts in the club than as the centre of attention), focused a bit more on being weird and trippy and spaced out. Since then they've evolved independently into different things, although they still seem to influence each other and occasionally a track still crosses over between scenes...

Essentially there isn't much difference, other than the people making it.

If you're from East London and Black...you make Grime.

If you're white and from South London you make Dubstep.

I just tripped out starin at your avatar for ages because he was actually in time to the music I'm listening to, currently Iron Soul AKA Kromestar sounds very grimy and totally different compared to the dubstep he releases!

Yeah, I've always thought Grime kinda associated more with the hip hop/ hype sound, whereas dubstep sides more on the chill/relaxed vibes, even though they're both around similar tempos. I don't really think that there is enough of a difference to warrant writing a paper over unless you plan on delving deep into the history and progression of each (which would give you enough material to accurately contrast the two styles).
