Box of Dub / Juju

If anyone got that stunning Juju mix from this forum not so long ago, they might recognise that Scuba tune which is featured on this Soul Jazz 'Box of Dub' release. That mix was from way back in April. Cheeky git must have some white-hot off the press promos...no real discussion needed...just some trivia.

p.s. well, I'm sure it's been discussed before on the forum, but the Burial tune on this compilation is stunning. Fulfilled expectations. Nice. The Burial debut is pretty much the Mezzanine of the 21st century, for me anyway.

trivia is always welcome, as well as promos are.. but just a few number of selektas can get their hands on it, nonetheless as soon as we can get our copies.. its perfect!

regarding to burial, there are some tracks in his album that sounds pretty mezzanine-esque, there are a track in his album that reminds me of some of the massive attack stuff back in the days, its the 9th track i do think so, so good.

love it, yes both can be described as deep and emotional IDM , im missing some new FSOL's tracks.

My mum offerd to get us somthing from a store, so i send here to cop the Box of Dub for me....Think she likes seeing the type of thing i get upto while i moved away......two middle aged parents asking for the latest Dubstep Lp, anyone served older than 64?......

Not sure about that. FSOL drew from a much wider palette than Burial.

Gravious much more similar to FSOL.

I grew up on future sounds of london in my teens..
just has a similar feel to their early stuff... especialy Kode9's mix for MAH..
1st time i heard that, it was pissing down wiv rain and i was toatally taken back to 92-93
just beautifully dark, reflective soundscapes.

Dubstep is the new trip hop

...and whilst the likes of Mezzanine and Dummy still get a regular spin at my gaff, there's a kind of 'dated' sound which can't be overlooked. Trip hop is a genre which, I believe, is almost entirely identified with the 90s. Is dubstep going to be another short-lived genre?

The speed at which it's developing is ridiculous (a good thing, of course) but will this not mean that it will develop so much that the 'original' dubstep 'sound' will be lost to such an extent that dubstep will be no longer, and we'll have some other new, hybrid genre? I hate to think it, but I can very easily imagine Burial's debut sitting in HMVs bargain bucket in 5 years+

There will always be dub.... when all else is gone, DUB will still rumble. that is why I am in.

Funny, I was listening to Dummy recently and thought the opposite. How ahead of its time and fresh it sounded.

This depends how you define dubstep - Techno, Reggae, Garage, Dub, Jungle, Minimal, Miami Bass, D&B, the list goes on but more than that its bass music, and bass will NEVER go out of fashion!

Nar, they'll have all been bought by then.

On topic though, if you think 2 months is a long time between hearing a tune played and buying it in the shops then listem to more mix's. I've seen years go by! We all got lucky on this one, more Box O Dub's to come in the same fashon hopefully

the idea of bass in tunes is a recent musical development - bass has always been an integral part of tunes since it was first used - this is just the first genre to really embrace bass the the most important part of the tune or at least as important as the rest

drum and bass never really done it for me... i dont think its bass element is anything close 2 dubsteps or even some grime tunes. all of it seemed weak in compairson to grime/44. now dubstep seems stronger.
