Should I buy Adam A7x's when my room isn't treated?

Post by Bass Music » Tue Nov 22, 2011 5:55 pm

It would be stretching the boat out a bit but I have heard such good things. It's either those, HS80m's or any other good ones people can suggest

thanks

dude i might draw some heat for this but imo investing in room treatment is kinda ridiculous (until you have the disposable cash to look at secondary concerns like that)
(or unless your room is so reflective and crazy that all you can hear is fluttering highs and humongous standing waves)

i would recommend getting your monitors, and just using them a lot. Once you learn your room and your monitors you'll be able to compensate for issues in the mix and get stuff right.

^what he said^ if u got the money now u may as well get the monitors, and worry about treating your room at a later date.

i forgot to add, don't bother with acoustic room treatment foam stuff.. basically they'll sell you $100 worth of foam for like $3,000 if they can. go to a business-to-business company such as U-LINE that supplies packaging material. you can get a huge roll of thick, effective foam like this http://www.uline.com/BL_865/Soft-Foam
or http://www.uline.com/BL_863/Convoluted-Foam-Sets they have more than just those products you might wanna call and ask what else they have. But i guaruntee youll save hundreds for the same exact shit. just hang it all over the place, layer it, etc. I threw panels of it up on the walls and hung thick blankets over them. Really helped kill the flutters in my room. good luck

Definitely. Adams are good speakers from my experience.

I agree with the other guys, treat your room later. It is good to understand your environment and with a little searching you can find some basic info on setting up. More than treatment the biggest impact (unless ur room is aweful) is positioning. make sure you have decent distance from walls, not in the corners and you set as an equilateral triangle to your listening point.

A mate that this software that tweakers his output to compensate for the room response measured. not sure the name but worth a hunt...

To be honest, unless you're planning to get a sub with the a7's, you're better off getting the yamaha's for dubstep since that extra inch of woofer will give you a deeper and more impactful (but NOT hyped) bass.

I use the 80's myself and they're great - plus with the money you save you can get some DIY room treatment.

Make sure you isolate your monitors with mopads or stands...very necessary. My desk drowned my bass out (from where I was sitting) so I would have to play it really loud, unknowingly rattling my entire apartment complex. I broke my neighbors fishbowl. MY BASS KILLED YOUR FISH. true story though :corntard:

I've heard the Adams have far more bass than those Yams

I'm sure as hell not treating my room :D Whenever I have something completely done I'll just have it mastered at a studio. With a few connections
you should be done for a few quid that way. Music tech schools will even take projects to master for free.

same.
Don’t worry about people stealing an idea. If it’s original, you will have to ram it down their throats.

I like the idea of making your own acoustic tiles, that's what I did and they helped ALOT. I got the softer foam from a craft store like Jo Ann Fabrics (US) and the thicker harder foam from Lowe's (also US). Some people will say "you can't just use any foam it has to be made for audio" I think that's b.s. mine have helped alot and you can make custom sizes and shapes to fit the room.

if you're going to be working on audio a LOT-- like 8+ hrs a day-- Adam speakers are great. really easy on the ears.

room treatment is always a worthwhile investment, especially bass traps.
