Not exactly brostep and not strictly deep, maybe fire some house, some grime in there, mix it up, don't need to stick to one thing to make it hypeee :W:

It's your desision but, i'd stay well away from the bro. Nothing but an ego boosting wallet fattening exorcise for the producers (most of which should be capable of writing decent music considering the lengths they go to in order to create the most ear-destroyingly pathetic screeches.) and not good to play at all. Educate my friend.

If he ever releases his stuff! Haha, been waiting on that Ginger Bread Man one for a while.

I'd say go for it. Just because they want bangers, doesn't always mean you can only play brostep. Throw in a few of your favourite tunes, and practice mixing them in in a way that keeps people dancing.

For example, I got half my med class (Jersey Shore type bros) dancing to Sukh Knight by sneaking in some G Activity during bits of Toxic, and then got them bouncing to some Abrupt by Roska by playing it under Dynamite. It makes you more versatile, and it's actually pretty fun screwing with

Once you get good enough at mixing it doesn't really matter what you play. N-Type plays quite a bit of brostep in his sets but it doesn't really matter because he gets the party started. You also don't have to mix at all to be a decent DJ. Autonomic influence type sets where you just play whatever work really well if done right.

Get yourself an alter ego.

Buy a cheap Luchadore wrestling mask, get a cape, call yourself "El Hombro!" and that way you can play double the amount of gigs without being seen to sell out. Play the more commercial brostep tracks, use the money you'll earn to finance your deeper tracks/equipment/lifestyle.

i just gave up on it all together lol... not giving a shit about clearing dance floors is definitley not the way to go and makes you look like a dick.. but on the other hand tearing out some god awful noise that sounds like it came out of transformers gang-banging godzilla is no good either! if you look around the dance floor it makes you want to get on your knees and beg for a nuclear holocaust

@ op. check out fable and the new digid ep (WRZ002). a good blend of tearout and bass heavy tunes with plenty of room (they all mix really nicely together).

you need to learn to build for the big tunes.

The key is just to find the middle ground. If you normally go on beatport, switch over to juno (or just something different) for a bit and check all the random new releases. You're bound to find more artists in there making types of music you wouldn't have thought you'd liked. Or find other mediums. I used to pitch up all my tunes to like +6 or 7 to make them more dancy for everyone.

DRTY wrote:As a promoter and a DJ, I'd say you play whatever you want to play. When booking support DJs I'm flooded with people sending me tearout mixes asking for gigs. It seems the ones that play decent stuff don't really promote themselves because they presume they're not gonna get booked, which is kind of sad. It's (in my experience) very hard to find local DJs playing good music.
Word. There are only so many spots for "superstars", but there are enough other spots to go around for everyone.
