Thinking about it seeing as this seems to have turned into a topic about ignorance I may as well tell you that the other day when I showed someone this they described it as 'some pretty weak dubstep'.

Trying to explain to friends what is and isnt dubstep is such hard work its unreal. Im getting abit tired of it.
Example:
Person:"You listen to post dubstep"
Me: "er what makes you say that"
Person: "Band pages"
Me: " Well Burial etc was around before skrillex and all the other stuff you call "dubstep" so that makes no sense atall"
:u:

God I can only imagine how hard it must be for American folks to convince people.

I swear, to some people, any and all music that has any electronic elements is dubstep now.

I was watching the video for Freshlyground - I'd Like (you know, that song that Mt Eden ruined), and some guy in the comments was trying to say that the Mt Eden ripoff was better. I said to him that Mt Eden is horrible, and I say that as a massive dubstep fan. He replied:
then you don't know alot about dubstep because mt eden is one of the first in the genre. Mt Eden also had a big influence of getting dubstep to mainstreak and a well-known status.

I guess that's because dubstep has attracted more rock/metal/hip hop listeners than any other electronic genre that's gone mainstream. People don't know how to distinguish between different EDM and refer to the kinds of hard synth that have been present in techno, house and dnb for years as 'dubstep sounds' because it's the first place they heard those sounds

I'm lucky in that I rarely have these problems with my friends, the ones who listen to dubstep have gotten into Phaeleh, Silkie and the like and the ones that don't tend to be pretty open minded about it. A guy I know did once say to me "you should listen to more underground dubstep, like Bar9 and Tek One"

ive lsitened to some of digital mystikz now, thanks to this forums on going obsession with it and tbh i find it dull
It has got exciting percussion, heavy bass with lots of weight, unconventional arrangement and a refreshingly dirty, almost hip hop feel, to the drum sampling.

What's there not to like?

I know, although maybe as it has a drop and is a bit of a banger it gave him more reason to think it was brostep. And I'm assuming he thought it was weak cos he listened to it on wank laptop speakers.

Wouldn't strictly class burial as dubstep. Man's far too unique to be put in a box.

Yeah, it's pretty tough.
Person: I like dubstep
Me (warily): Me too...what artists do you like?
Person: Dubstep! I just said that!
Me: Yeah, but what dubstep artists do you like?
Person: Dubstep IS an artist, right? ...he makes, like, cool electronic music!

Me: *takes out gun*

Believe it or not, I have actually run into this EXACT situation...not once, but twice. Twice.
