Mixdowns for £10 :-) (first 5 get it for £5!)

Post by bluecheeserecs » Mon Nov 21, 2011 10:54 am

Right im not gonna claim to be a proffessional or claim to have studied all these brilliant techniques, however i have spent the last 6 years learning how to get the best mixdown using the software/setup that i have and would like to put it to good use.

For £10 ill take the stems of your tune and mixdown and add a basic master that will be of a decent quality for you to send to labels, play out, stick in mixes etc. The tunes will be release ready however I'm not a mastering engineer and will only add a basic master to finish it off so i wouldnt advise sending straight for release. They will however be ready to be mastered by a label and then submitted for release. This all depends on the quality of the original tune ofcourse

And just to get things going, the first 5 people to get tunes over to me will get their mixdowns for £5.

If interested get intouch freek(at)bluecheeserecords(dot)co(dot)uk

to hear tunes i've mixed previously go to http://soundcloud.com/djfreek

Couple of questions before we get started;

1) What is the setup (hardware & software) that you'd be using to do the mastering?

2) Have you done the mastering for any commercial releases so far, and if so what?

3) Can you provide before/after .WAV files to demonstrate your technique? (Soundcloud isn't really the best due to the encoding it uses when you upload)

4)

Does this mean that once you've mastered the tune, if it is to be released by a label it is advisable for them to master it a second time?

Hi mate, i'm not offering a mastering service. I am offering a mixdown service. I will however once i have finished the mixdown, provide a basic master that i use on all of my tunes. So yes when the tune is signed it will need to be proffessionally mastered by the label.

I will not want any payment upfront. Once the artist/producer has been intouch ill explain how to export the stems and where to upload them. Once i have finished the mixdown i will send a 1 minute clip to the producer for their approval. If happy with what they hear, they send payment via paypal and i will send the mixdown in both wav & 320 mp3 format.

Ok, my bad. Please allow me to rephrase the questions;

1) What is the setup (hardware & software) that you'd be using to do the mixdown?

2) Have you done the mixdown for any commercial releases so far, and if so what?

3) Can you provide before/after .WAV files to demonstrate your technique? (Soundcloud isn't really the best due to the encoding it uses when you upload)

Hi mate, all of my previous releases(mixdowns) can be found here http://www.trackitdown.net/artist/289378/freek.html

Hardware: PC, Mbox 2 Pro, M-Audio Studiophile Monitors
Software: Ableton Live 8(pre-processing), Cubase SX3 (Final Mixdown), Izotope Ozone, Waves Plugin Bundles, Stillwell Audio Plugin Bundle, Avox Vocal tools, Ohmicide Distortion. I have a huge collection of VSTs however these are the ones i found myself using all the time...

As i said previously i dont claim to be a proffessional, i just have a lot of experience in getting the best sound out of my own setup. With regards to a before // after clip i will provide a 1min clip before any payment is sent therefore you get your own before/after sample, if u dont like, u dont pay and ill delete the files from my pc. No problems! nothin to loose!

How would you mixdown from just the stems, assuming that you wouldn't be able to adjust any of the effects applied to the project before the stems are created?

I'll work with the audio provided, if i feel a certain effect/parameter would sound best if it was tweaked slighly then id ask the producer if they mind adjusting it slightly and then sending me that particular part again. It will be rare that i would need to do that though, i should be able to work with any audio provided regardless of the amount of processing :-) cheers

Mind putting up screenshots showing what it is you do? I'm in no position to be spending any money atm, but just curious if it isn't too much trouble.
...in my opinion

Looks like a sick idea, but I cant help but think that this is the 'easy way out' for n00b producers, would it not be better for people to learn stuff for themselves?

some people are just musicians, and really don't care about mixdowns and masters, so that's why mixdown engineers and mastering services are for :W:

If I'm in America, can I just pay 10$ instead of pounds?

Hi peeps, had a few bookings now so once i've finished the first one ill post up some before and after clips (with the producers permission) just to show you the kind of effect it can have.

In response to the comment above re noob producers needin to learn the techniques... i whole heartedly agree, however... this kind of service would come in real handy for djs who are new to producing but want to play their own stuff out. I'll help get the tunes sounding full and big enough that you wont hear that huge gap of sound when mixing from an official/released tune into your own dub. It can also help the budding noob producer who wants to hear what their tunes would sound like with someone with a bit more experience on the final stages..

In response to the question re $$ & ££. Im not too sure on the conversion rate atm however either way it will be unfair to allow some people to have it cheaper. So to keep everone sweet it will need to be £10 regardless of whereabouts you're from. All payments are via paypal so iternational payments should be easy.

I still have a couple of bookings left that i'll do for £5, so get intouch if interested. Remember you dont pay anything untill i've finished and sent a clip for your approval so there's no harm in gettin intouch!! Cheers for all the interest ppl!!

Once you upload the befores and afters I'll most likely make a booking, as a n00b producer myself, it would be good to see how it's done, the differences and for me to replicate it etc :D

if I gave you a track to mixdown, would you tell me how it was done, what mistakes I had made, what you corrected, how you did it etc. and just general tips on how to do a better mixdown myself next time? I think that would be really helpful. Otherwise, I would just be having my track mixed down without really learning anything. Cheers

It's wierd that you'd spend all that money on very expensive vst's and not choose to get some good monitors instead. -q-
